The electronic states of the three constituent elements in the crystal mixed system between CeNi and GdNi, Ce$$_{0.2}$$Gd$$_{0.8}$$Ni, were investigated by soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). Not only Gd 4f but also Ni 3d and Ce 4f electrons were magnetic and both magnetic moments of Ni and Ce were coupled anti-parallel to the direction of the Gd magnetic moment. After saturation, Ce magnetic moment decreased over 2 T and this behavior was explained by a spin-flip behavior of the Ce magnetic moment. In addition, sum rule analysis has revealed that the magnetic moments of Gd 4 f and Ni 3d electrons could retain small values of orbital magnetic moments.

We have investigated the effects on electrical properties of Al-doped ZnO (AZO) semiconductor films induced by high-energy heavy ion. The AZO films with c-axis on SiO$$_{2}$$ glass substrate were prepared by a RF-sputter-deposition method at 400 $$^{circ}$$C. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy shows that the Al/Zn composition and the film thickness are 4 % and 0.3 $$mu$$m. We find that the conductivity monotonically increases from 1.5$$times$$10$$^{2}$$ to 8$$times$$10$$^{2}$$ S/cm with increasing the fluence up to 4$$times$$10$$^{13}$$/cm$$^{2}$$, as already been observed for 100 keV Ne irradiation. The fluence of 100 keV Ne at which the conductivity takes its maximum is 3$$times$$10$$^{16}$$/cm$$^{2}$$ (7 dpa). The dpa of 100 MeV Xe at 4$$times$$10$$^{13}$$/cm$$^{2}$$ is estimated as 0.008. Hence, the conductivity increase by 100 MeV Xe ion is ascribed to the electronic excitation effects.

Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy shows that the Al/Zn composition and the film thickness are 4 % and 0.3 $$mu$$m. No appreciable change was observed in optical transparency. The background and recent results of "Development of laser remote analysis for next generation nuclear fuel and applied study by MOX sample" entrusted to Japan Atomic Energy Agency by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) will be summarized. Measurement accuracy in elemental analysis by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy and the analysis of the expansion phenomena of ablation plume by resonance fluorescence spectroscopy will be globally discussed. Application for the inner monitoring in the accident of Fukushima power plant and an environmental monitoring of $$^{90}$$Sr by semiconductor laser resonance ionization spectroscopy will be also introduced.

Information on the elemental and isotopic compositions of fuel debris is essential for the decommissioning of TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. In this study, we have developed a double-resonance ionization scheme for highly sensitive and accurate isotope analysis of neodymium (Nd), which is a burnup indicator.
