Safety analysis for underground disposal facilities for high-level radioactive waste requires thorough understanding of long-term groundwater flow and nuclide migration processes in geologic media. In the coastal subsurface systems, groundwater flow is defined by the complex interactions between freshwater of meteoric origin and denser saline water from the sea. In addition, sea levels are expected to fluctuate significantly due to a transgression and regression of the sea over the millions of years for safety analysis. This study presents long-term evolution of groundwater environment such as salinity concentration and flow velocity with focus of the interaction between fractures and matrix blocks in regional and near-field scale analysis framework for groundwater flow and nuclide migration for underground disposal facilities in hypothetical fractured crystalline coastal systems.

Large-sized dried spikes, called LSD spike, are used as reference material for accountancy analysis for Plutonium and Uranium by Isotope Dilution Mass Spectrometry. LSD spikes preparation is performed each steps as followed (1) Preparing Plutonium and Uranium mix solution, (2) Aliquoting mix solution to vials, and (3) Drying. J-MOX have planned prepared in-house LSD spike and utilized it for accountancy analysis. If LSD spikes are stored for long term, dried material peel off from bottom of vial and it may affect analytical results. In this study, LSD spikes, which have composition suitable for accountancy analysis in J-MOX, had been stored for about 2 years, then long-term stability of LSD spikes had been evaluated.

Times Cited Count:4 Percentile:25.92(Physics, Applied)A systematic structural study of epitaxial graphene samples on the SiC (0001) surface has been performed by the surface X-ray diffraction method, which is a non-contact technique. For samples with only a buffer layer, one layer graphene, and multilayer graphene, the distances between the buffer layer and the surface Si atoms were found to be 0.23 nm. This value is the same as reported values. For quasi-free-standing graphene samples prepared by the rapid cooling method, there was no buffer layer and the distance between the quasi-free-standing graphene and the surface Si atoms was 0.35 nm, which is significantly shorter than the value in hydrogen-intercalated graphene and slightly longer than the interplane distance in graphite. The Si occupancy deviated from unity within 1 nm of the SiC surface. The depth profile of the Si occupancy showed little sample dependence, and it was reproduced by a simple atomistic model based on random hopping of Si atoms.

We have constructed a linac for development of various accelerator components at J-PARC. The ion source is same as the J-PARC linac's, and the RFQ is a used one in the J-PARC linac. The beam energy is 3 MeV and nominal beam current is 30 mA. The accelerator has been already commissioned, and the first development program, laser-charge-exchange experiment for the transmutation experimental facility, has been started. In this paper, present status of this 3-MeV linac is presented.

Times Cited Count:9 Percentile:49.6(Physics, Nuclear)Measurements of electrons from the decay of open-heavy-flavor mesons have shown that the yields are suppressed in Au+Au collisions compared to expectations from binary-scaled collisions. Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to collisions.
