The structure of a neutron-rich F nucleus is investigated by a quasifree () knockout reaction. The sum of spectroscopic factors of orbital is found to be 1.0 0.3. The result shows that the O core of F nucleus significantly differs from a free O nucleus, and the core consists of 35% O, and 65% excited O. The result shows that the O core of F nucleus significantly differs from a free O nucleus. The result may infer that the addition of the proton considerably changes the neutron structure in F from that in O, which could be a possible mechanism responsible for the oxygen dripline anomaly.

By means of inelastic neutron scattering, we measured magnetic excitations in a sizable single crystal of LaSrCuAlO, which is an Al-substituted system of the heavily hole-doped cuprate system LaSrCuO with an effective concentration of holes of = 0.25.

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) is now devoting to development of Full-W ITER divertor outer vertical target (OVT), especially, PFU that needs to withstand the repetitive heat load as high as 20MW/m. JAEA have succeeded in demonstrating that the soundness of a bonding technology is sufficient for the full-W ITER divertor. For the development of bonding technology, the load carrying capability test on the W monoblock with a leg attachment to an OVT support structure was carried out and shows that the attachment can withstand against the uniaxial load more than 20 kN which is three times higher than the IO requirement. JAEA manufactured 6 small-scale mock-ups and tested under the repetitive heat load of 10 and 20 MW/m to examine the durability of the divertor structure including W tile bonding and the cooling tube. All of the mock-ups could survived 5000 cycles at 10 MW/m and 1000 cycles 20 MW/m with no failure such as debonding of the W tile and water leak from the cooling tube. The number of cycles at 20 MW/m is three times longer than the requirement of ITER divertor.

The objective of this project is to elucidate molecular mechanisms for the induction of radioadaptive response through radiation-induced bystander responses induced by irradiation with heavy ion microbeams in JAEA. We found that the adaptive response was induced by Ar (520 MeV Ar) microbeam-irradiation of a limited number of cells, followed by the broad beam-irradiation and that the adaptive response was almost completely suppressed by the addition of carboxy-PTIO, as a nitric oxide (NO) scavenger. In addition, we found several genes induced specifically and preferentially when radioadaptive response could be induced. We confirmed that expression was specifically induced only when radioadaptive response could be induced. Our findings strongly suggested that radioadaptive response can be induced by NO-mediated bystander responses evoked by irradiation with heavy ion microbeams.

Radiation-induced bystander responses are defined as responses in cells that have not been directly targeted by radiation but are in the neighborhood of cells that have been directly exposed. In this study, we aim to clarify a role of bystander response to sustain the homeostasis of damaged tissue using heavy-ion microbeams. We established the heavy-ion microbeam irradiation method to a 3D cultured human epidermis. Using this method, a viable cell rate of the 3D cultured human epidermis irradiated with 260 MeV Ne-ion microbeams or broadbeams was analyzed by the MTT method.

We demonstrate high conversion efficiency for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission at 6.5-6.7 nm from multiple laser beam-produced one-dimensional spherical plasmas. Multiply charged-state ions produce strong resonance emission lines, which combine to yield intense unresolved transition arrays in Gd, Tb, and Mo. The maximum in-band EUV conversion efficiency was observed to be 0.8%, which is one of the highest values ever reported due to the reduction of plasma expansion loss.

The Sn content in a spent nuclear fuel solution was determined by ICP-MS for its inventory estimation in high-level radioactive waste. An irradiated UO fuel was used as a sample to evaluate the reliability of the methodology. Prior to the measurement, Sn was separated from Te, which causes major isobaric interference in the determination of Sn content, along with highly radioactive coexisting elements using an anion-exchange column. The absence of counts attributed to Te in the Sn-containing effluent indicates that Te was completely removed. After washing, Sn retained on the column was readily eluted with 1 M HNO. The isotope ratios of Sn were successfully determined and showed good agreement with those obtained through ORIGEN2 calculations. The results reported in this paper are the first experimental values of Sn content in the spent nuclear fuel solution originating in spent nuclear fuel irradiated at a nuclear power plant in Japan.

The outer vertical targets of the ITER divertor are procured by the Japan Domestic Agency, JADA. Manufacturing a full-scale prototype of the half cassette which consists of 11 plasma facing units and a steel support structure has been started in Japan. JADA has greatly improved the success rate of the joint between the plasma-facing materials and heat-sink materials, in consequence of R&D on joint technology and quality control. JADA solved problems of quality control of the joint interface by an improved system of infrared thermography inspection, which provides quick feedback during the manufacturing process about the presence of defect in the joint. This paper reports on the achievements and the clarifications of technical and quality issues for the manufacture of the divertor components to be supplied by Japan.

After the successful completion of the prequalification activity for ITER divertor procurement, Japanese Domestic Agency (JADA) and ITER Organization (IO) have entered into the procurement arrangement of divertor outer vertical target (OVT) in June 2009. In accordance with the arrangement, JADA has started to manufacture an OVT full-scale prototype in order to pick out and solve technical and quality issues, then to establish a rational manufacturing process toward the start of the series of production of the OVT components to be installed in tokamak. This paper presents the overview of JADA's activity on the divertor outer target procurement and also procurement schedule will be presented.

Toward the ITER construction, JADA push forward the technology development for outer vertical target for ITER divertor. In this report, resent results on joining technology development between Carbon-based material (CFC) monoblocks and Cu-alloy (CuCrZr) cooling tube and heating test for full-scale divertor prototype are summarized. Joint test reveals cause of defects occurred in the CFC monoblock joint and Improvement on this joint is realized by using Cu-W material as a buffer layer between CFC and CuCrZr instead of conventional soft Cu layer. The joint with Cu-W layer can suppress joint defect in the CFC monoblocks. Furthermore, as a result of repetitive heating test at 20 MW/m in 10 s for 1,000 cycles on the CFC monoblock divertor mock-up with Cu-W buffer layer, the deterioration of heat removal was not observed.

Accurate inventory estimation of long-lived fission products (LLFPs) in LWR spent fuels is important for the quality management and for long-term safety assessment of high-level radioactive vitrified wastes. In Japan, ORIGEN2 has been widely used to estimate the fuel compositions. However, equipped library data in the original ORIGEN2 are old and are not validated enough for LLFPs, such as Se, Tc, Sn and Cs, because available post irradiation examination (PIE) data are limited for these nuclides, which have difficulties in radiochemical analyses. For more accurate the estimation, new ORIGEN2 libraries are developed from the latest nuclear data library JENDL-4.0 for cross sections and fission yields, and from other libraries for half-lives, and so on. The new libraries are validated by PIE analyses of the sample fuels irradiated in Cooper, Calvert-Cliffs-1, H. B. Robinson-2, and Ohi-1. As a result, it was found that the new library gives good results for the estimation.

For accurate inventory estimation of long-lived fission products in LWR spent fuels, a new burn-up chain model and decay data based on the latest nuclear data such as JENDL-4.0 was developed. MVP-BURN with the latest nuclear data was applied to several post irradiation examinations including inventory measurements of Se, Tc, Sn and Cs. One of them is a new measurement by JAEA. From the PIE analyses, it is found that the new PIE data obtained by JAEA is consistent with the other PIE data by different laboratory with different techniques. It is also confirmed that the present calculation results show good agreements with experimental ones within about 10% for productions of Se and Cs. In contrast, amounts of Tc and Sn are overestimated by about 50%. These discrepancies are likely due to the effect of insoluble residue produced during sample dissolution and/or errors of fission yields in the analyses.
