Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has been proposing an accelerator-driven nuclear transmutation system (ADS) as a future nuclear system to efficiently reduce high-level radioactive waste generated in nuclear power plants. As the first step toward the full-scale CW proton linac for the JAEA-ADS, we are currently prototyping a low-beta (around 0.2) single-spoke cavity. Since there is no experience in manufacturing superconducting spoke cavities in Japan, prototyping and performance evaluation of the cavity are essential to ensure the feasibility of the JAEA-ADS. The actual cavity fabrication started in 2020, and the cavity assembly by electron beam welding was finally completed in fiscal year 2024. In this assembly, the target resonance frequency of 324 MHz was achieved by trimming the ends of the cavity parts several times before the final welding. In the final welding, smooth weld beads were obtained by combining circular-correction and end-thinning for the cavity parts to be welded. The fabrication of the prototype spoke cavity is presented.

Various upgrade plans of the J-PARC linac are underway, and repetition-rate doubling project is one of the most important part. Currently, the linac supplies a 400~MeV H
ion beam to the 3~GeV synchrotron (RCS) at a repetition rate of 25~Hz. However, to deliver the beam to both RCS and proton-beam irradiation facility under planning, it is necessary to raise the repetition rate from 25~Hz to 50~Hz. Prior to construction of the beamline to the irradiation facility, we conducted a verification of the 50~Hz operation of all the linac apparatus simultaneously within the current operational limits in May 2025. And also, the verification of the 50~Hz operation of the particle counter system, which is one of the most important safety device of the J-PARC accelerator, was conducted. As a result, any significant problems were not found out, and it is now ready for the upcoming 50~Hz-beam acceleration demonstration. This paper describes this details of the demonstration of the 50~Hz operation, without beam acceleration, of the J-PARC linac.

In a high-level radioactive waste disposal, it is important to understand the extent of the Excavation Damaged Zone (EDZ) because it can be one of the factors to determine whether disposal galleries or pits can be excavated or not in the design or construction phases. In this study, we performed a hydro-mechanical coupling analysis to simulate the three-dimensional excavation of the twin galleries which were excavated at a depth of 500 m in the Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory. The analysis revealed that the EDZ was developed 1.5-2.0 m from the gallery wall. The stress acting on the shotcrete was within the ultimate limit state. Based on these results, we estimated that the stability of the twin galleries will be maintained, despite the relatively large extent of the EDZ.

LiCoO
is widely used as a cathode material in lithium-ion batteries. However, the reversible capacity of LiCoO
at high voltage is not well known because of the oxidative degradation of the electrolyte. In this study, a thin-film all-solid-state battery was fabricated with epitaxially grown LiCoO
cathode and Li
PO
solid electrolyte as a model battery that operates stably at high voltages, ranging up to 4.6 V, without drastic degradation. However, the charge-discharge capacities of the battery decreased with cycling at 4.7 V.
synchrotron X-ray diffraction studies revealed that LiCoO
was deactivated via a change in its crystal structure to O1 type, with narrow interlayer distances, at 4.7 V. The reduced distance between the interlayers in the O1 structure possibly prevents the re-intercalation of Li ions, leading to irreversibility.

Photo-(de)intercalation plays a pivotal role in the functionality of photorechargeable systems. Nevertheless, the photo-(de)intercalation process has not been conclusively confirmed owing to potential interference from side reactions, such as the decomposition of liquid electrolytes and the elution of electrode materials. In this study, we successfully demonstrated photo-responsive Li
-deintercalation using an all-solid-state thin-film battery comprised of epitaxially-grown anatase TiO
doped with Nb (a-TiO
:Nb) as the cathode. Under light irradiation, Li
-deintercalation occurred and was subsequently reversibly intercalated into a-TiO
:Nb during discharge.

In this study, we achieve the stable photoelectrochemical reaction at the semiconductor-electrode/solid-electrolyte interface in Nb-doped anatase-TiO
(a-TiO
:Nb)/Li
PO
(LPO)/Li all-solid-state cell. The oxidative currents of a-TiO
:Nb/LPO/Li increase upon light irradiation when a-TiO
:Nb is located at a potential that is more positive than its flat-band potential. The photoelectrochemical reaction at the semiconductor/solid-electrolyte interface is driven by the same principle as that at semiconductor/liquid-electrolyte interfaces. Thus, we extend photoelectrochemistry to all-solid-state systems composed of solid/solid interfaces.

The muon-dedicated linear accelerator is being developed for the muon g-2/EDM experiment at J-PARC. To suppress the decay loss during acceleration, the alternative phase focusing (APF) method inter-digital H-mode drift tube linac (IH-DTL) is adopted in the low-velocity region following a radio-frequency quadrupole linac (RFQ). We are planning to accelerate muons in 2025 using the RFQ and the IH-DTL which will accelerate muons from 8% to 30% of the speed of light with an operating frequency of 324 MHz. After the IH-DTL, a diagnostic beamline will be placed to measure the beam energy and quality after acceleration, and its design, which consists of magnets and bunchers, is underway. In this poster, we will report on the development status of the diagnostic beamline.

A unique muon linear accelerator (linac) for the muon g-2/EDM experiment at J-PARC is under development. Digital feedback (DFB) design employed in a low-level radio frequency (LLRF) control system is crucial to fulfilling the required RF amplitude and phase specifications in the RF cavities for a stable and continuous acceleration of the whole bunched particles. To this end, a micro telecommunications computing architecture.4 (MicroTCA.4)-based compact and in-house DFB design, using VadaTech commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) RF system-on-chip (RFSoC) advanced mezzanine card (AMC), is aimed for the muon linac. This feedback control system will employ a direct sampling method that reduces the project cost by requiring less hardware employment for ultra-high frequency (UHF) and L-band accelerating structures. The present status and first results of the project will be reported in this paper.

The alpha contaminated gloveboxes have been dismantled for over 20 years in Plutonium Fuel Fabrication Facility. The so called wet recovery equipment gloveboxes, which recover plutonium and uranium from scrap fuel by dissolving and extracting processes, were chosen as the priority gloveboxes to be dismantled. These gloveboxes and other gloveboxes in the same room were size reduced and removed up until 2022. Also, non-radioactive ancillary facility and non-radioactive giant glovebox were removed from 2007 to 2010 for ease of glovebox dismantling activities that follows and for making waste storage spaces. Several incidents were occurred and recidivism prevention measures were implemented on each occasion. In this report, glovebox dismantling activities we conducted in the past 20 years are reviewed and lessons we have learned are summarized.

Most of the cavity parts were fabricated in fiscal year 2020 by press-forming and machining. In 2021, we started welding the cavity parts together. After investigating the optimum welding conditions using mock-up test pieces, each cavity part was joined with smooth welding beads. Currently, the cavity's body section and the beam port sections have been assembled. This paper presents the current status of the JAEA-ADS and it's cavity prototyping.

beams are accelerated to 191~MeV by a separated drift tube linac (SDTL) and subsequently to 400~MeV by an annular-ring coupled structure (ACS). Because there are more beam loss mechanisms in H
linacs than in proton linacs, it is imperative to investigate the beam loss circumstances for beam loss mitigation. Electron-stripping phenomena, which generate uncontrollable H
particles, are characteristic beam loss factors of H
linacs. To clarify the beam loss causes in the J-PARC linac, a new diagnostic line was installed in the beam transport between the SDTL and ACS. In this diagnostic line, H
particles were separated from the H
beam, and the intensity profiles of the H
particles were successfully measured by horizontally scanning a graphite plate in the range where H
particles were distributed. By examining the intensity variation of the H
particles with different residual pressure levels, we proved that half of the H
particles in the SDTL section are generated by the residual gas stripping in the nominal beam operation of the J-PARC linac.

To measure the longitudinal phase distribution of a low-energy negative hydrogen (H
) ion beam, highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) was adopted for the secondary-electron-emission target to mitigate the thermal damage due to the high-intensity beam loading. The HOPG target enabled the measurement of the longitudinal phase distribution at the center of a 3-MeV H
ion beam with a high peak current of about 50 mA. The longitudinal bunch width was measured using HOPG-BSM at the test stand, which was consistent with the beam simulation. The correlation measurement between the beam transverse and longitudinal planes was demonstrated using HOPG-BSM. The longitudinal Twiss and emittance measurement with the longitudinal Q-scan method was conducted using HOPG-BSM.
