We have carried out the neutron scattering measurements for a single crystal of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$ in order to investigate the ferromagnetic ordering induced by Rh$$^{3+}$$ substitution for Co$$^{3+}$$ of LaCoO$$_{3}$$. The ordered moment is evaluated to be 0.4$$pm$$0.2$$mu$$$$_{B}$$, which is consistent with the saturation magnetization of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$. It indicates that the ferromagnetic ordering of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$ originates from the short-range ferromagnetic ordering disordered by Rh$$^{3+}$$ ions.

Neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction for LaCo$$_{1-x}$$ Rh$$_{x}$$O$$_{3}$$ have been carried out in order to investigate the structural properties related with the spin state of Co$$^{3+}$$ ions. We have found that the values of the Co(Rh)-O bond lengths in the Co(Rh)O$$_{6}$$ octahedron of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$ are nearly identical at 10 K. The lattice volume for the Rh$$^{3+}$$ substituted samples decreases with the thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of LaCoO$$_{3}$$ from room temperature, and ceases to decrease around 70 K. These experimental results favor a mixed state consisting of the high-spin state and low-spin state Co$$^{3+}$$ ions, and suggest that the high-spin state Co$$^{3+}$$ ions are thermally excited in addition to those pinned by the substituted Rh$$^{3+}$$ ions.

We have measured the specific heat and magnetization up to 50 T of polycrystalline samples of RCrTiO$$_{5}$$ (R=Pr, Nd, Eu, Sm and Gd) and also carried out powder neutron diffraction experiments of NdCrTiO$$_{5}$$ and Nd$$_{0.5}$$Pr$$_{0.5}$$CrTiO$$_{5}$$. From the analyses of specific heat data and magnetization curves up to 50 T of the systems, we have evaluated the magnetic interactions between the Cr$$^{3+}$$ - Cr$$^{3+}$$ magnetic moments and between the Cr$$^{3+}$$ -R$$^{3+}$$ ones. The temperature dependence of neutron magnetic reflection intensities of NdCrTiO$$_{5}$$ indicate that both the Cr$$^{3+}$$-moments and the Nd$$^{3+}$$-moments simultaneously order at $$T_mathrm{N}$$. Basis of the obtained magnetic behavior, the mechanism of magnetoelectric effect of RCrTiO$$_{5}$$ will be discussed.

Magnetic and crystal structures of Ba$$_{3}$$Co$$_{1-x}$$Ca$$_{x}$$Ru$$_{2}$$O$$_{9}$$

The magnetic and crystal structures, and magnetic properties of Ba$$_{3}$$Co$$_{1-x}$$Ca$$_{x}$$Ru$$_{2}$$O$$_{9}$$ have been studied by using the neutron powder diffraction and the magnetization analysis. With increasing ${it x}$, an antiferromagnetic transition temperature $$T_mathrm{N}$$ decreases such as $$T_mathrm{N}$$ = 88 K (${it x}$=0.1), 82 K (${it x}$=0.2), and 76 K (${it x}$=0.3), respectively. We have observed magnetic reflections, which can not be explained by the collinear structure. Though the lattice volume increases, we have found that a Ru-Ru bond length decreases with increasing ${it x}$. It is considered to be related with the Ru-Ru dimerization. By the combined studies of the magnetic properties and neutron diffraction analysis, we will discuss the change of Ru$$^{5+}$$-spins with varying ${it x}$.

The crystal and magnetic structures of Ba$$_{3}$$Co$$_{1-x}$$Ca$$_{x}$$Ru$$_{2}$$O$$_{9}$$ has been studied by using the neutron powder diffraction. We also carried out the measurements of magnetic properties of this sample. $$T_mathrm{N}$$ is decreased with increasing the fraction of Ca ion, and we found that $$T_mathrm{N}$$ is 76 K at the fraction of Ca = 0.3. although the lattice constants of the sample are increased by the substituting Ca for Co ion, a Ru-Ru bond length decreases with increasing fraction of Ca ion. In this presentation, the details of the magnetic properties and magnetic structure of this material will be discussed.
