The magnetic data were analyzed by a spin Hamiltonian including the crystal field effect on Tb ion (4f, = 6, = 3, = 3, = 3/2, F). The Stark splitting of the ground state F was evaluated from the magnetic analysis, and the energy diagram pattern indicated an easy-plane and easy-axis (Ising type) magnetic anisotropies for and , respectively. Highly efficient luminescences with = 0.50 and 0.61 for and , respectively, were observed, and the luminescence fine structure due to the D F transition is in good accordance with the energy diagram determined from the magnetic analysis.

The complex has an eight-coordinate mononuclear structure with two Schiff base ligands in a form. The complex displays emission bands resulting from ff transitions by excitation at 357 or 234 nm in acetonitrile.

Eu complexes of tetradentate Schiff-base ligand(L) have a octa-coordinated structure which ligand perpendicularly coordinated to the Eu center. It has been found that the counter cation, triethylammonium, formed hydrogen bonding with the complex with L. In this presentation, we investigated the Eu complex with L with tetraethylammonium as a counter cation which could not form hydrogen bonding with the complex.

Mononuclear Y(III), La(III), Gd(III) complexes ((CH)N[Ln(L)]) with tetradentate Schiff base ligands derived from chiral stilbenediamine were synthesized. The luminescence of these complexes exhibited different in luminescence color between the chiral complexes and the racemic complexes. In this presentation, luminescence properties on the crystalline powder of mononuclear Y(III), La(III), Gd(III) complexes were investigated in detail. It was found out that the different luminescence spectra of crystalline were observed in between chiral and racemic complexes, but the similar luminescence spectra were observed in the ground ones.

Mononuclear Eu(III) complexes with tetradentate schiff base ligands (CH)NH[Eu(L)] (L:3,5Clsalen) exhibits strong red luminescence under ultraviolet light at 360 nm. The derivatives of this complex varies its luminescence in the solid state by the structural change of the ligand or counter cation. In this presentation, luminescence properties of mononuclear europium(III) complex with tetradentate Schiff base ligands and different counter cations such as X=(CH)NH , (CH)N in solutions were investigated.

Mono-nuclear Eu(III) complexes coordinated by two tetradentate salen type Schiff bases allowed to constitute a meridional eight-coordination structure and demonstrate red luminescence based on a f-f transition by means of ultra-violet irradiation. In this study, ternary and quaternary ammonium cations (XNH or XN) were used for synthesis of mono-nuclear complexes and their luminescence properties were investigated. Especially, the changes of the luminescence intensity with regard to the grind samples were also studied in detail.
