Radiation hard image sensors have been developed past decades among the world. Almost papers discussed properties before and after radiation but images during radiation were not described yet. We have developed a new type of rad-hard pixel and integrated to 1.3M-pixel, 18-bit digital CMOS image sensor. Pixel area consists of several types of variation and the sensor has been analyzed during gamma ray radiation higher than 1 kGy/h up to 200 kGy. As the result, one type of pixel showed almost zero dark current increase at whole period.

In response to the lesson of the accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant, we started a development of a radiation resistant monitoring camera system. In this study, improvement of radiation resistance of the imaging sensor was addressed as the main target. Three different types of CMOS image sensors with field plate structure and three transistors (3TPD), photogate structure and three (3TPG) or four transistors (4TPG) were designed and fabricated. The sensors were irradiated up to 70 kGy at the
Co
-ray irradiation facility at Takasaki Advanced Radiation Research Institute in Japan Atomic Energy Agency. After irradiation, the dark current of the 4TPG rapidly increased and excessed that of the 3T types at least by 50 kGy. The large increase of the dark current of the 4TPG resulted in almost no sensitivity at least by 50 kGy. On the other hand, the sensitivities of the 3T types remained usable values and 3TPG had larger sensitivity than 3TPD after 50 kGy. As the results, the 3TPG sensor was revealed to be the most advantageous one in terms of dark current and sensitivity among the fabricated three sensors.

Silicon semiconductor production by neutron transmutation doping (NTD) method using the JMTR has been investigated in Neutron Irradiation and Testing Reactor Center, Japan Atomic Energy Agency in order to expand the industry use. As a part of investigations, irradiation test with a silicon ingot was planned using WWR-K in Institute of Nuclear Physics, Republic of Kazakhstan. A device rotating the ingot made with the silicon was fabricated and was installed in the WWR-K for the irradiation test. And that, a preliminary irradiation test was carried out using neutron fluence monitors to evaluate the neutronic irradiation field. Based on the result, two silicon ingots were irradiated as scheduled, and the resistivity of each irradiated silicon ingot was measured to confirm the applicability of high-quality silicon semiconductor by the NTD method (NTD-Si) to its commercial production.

The big tsunami wave caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake triggered station black out of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The schedule until ending of the decommission is shown in the guidance from Japanese government. But the dose rate in the reactor vessel is quite high and it is not possible to specify the position of melted fuel debris by visual inspection. That is one of the most important issues in this process. This report describes the development of Self Powered Gamma Detector (SPGD) for the purpose to specify the position of melted fuel debris and situation in the reactor by measuring
rate in the reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The
irradiation examinations by changing the parameter of emitters figure were performed and the dependency of SPGD output on emitter shape was summarized.

Li

powder with a monoclinic cell related to the space group of

was synthesized by a simplified coprecipitation method. Its electrode properties as a lithium-battery cathode were investigated in the charge-discharge potential ranges of 2.0 - 4.6, 2.0 - 4.8, and 2.0 - 5.0 V. In all the potential ranges, the electrochemical capacities gradually increased during cycling, and the increased capacities significantly depended on the potential ranges. Compared to the discharge capacities for the potential ranges of 2.0 - 4.6 and 2.0 - 5.0 V, the former merely increased from 12.5 to 22.5 mAhg
between the 1st and 99th cycles, whereas the latter increased from 20.0 to 110.2 mAhg
during the same cycling. The structural variation in Li
MnO
is induced by the cycling, the rhombohedral phase is detected during cycling in the potential range of 2.0 - 5.0 V.

In-pile instrumentation systems in present LWR's are indispensable to monitor all situations during reactor operation and reactor shut down. However, those systems did not work sufficiently under the conditions like as the severe accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station. Therefore, based on the irradiation measurement technique of experiences accumulated in JMTR, the developments of reactor instrumentation systems to prevent severe core damage accident in advance have been started. The development objects are four instrumentation systems, which are a solid electrolysis type hydrogen concentration sensor, a water gauge of thermocouple type equipped with the heater, a
-ray detector of self-powered type SPGD, and an image analysis system of Cherenkov light for quantification of in-reactor information by CCD cameras. After the developments, the in-pile verification tests of four instrumentation systems are planned at the JMTR.

To improve the quality of irradiation tests data and to increase the reliability of safety management system of reactors including both MTR and LWR, development of new instrumentation is key issue. JAEA is developing several in-pile instrumentations to conduct irradiation tests at JMTR. Here we introduce three new instrumentations. These are ECP sensor, new water level indicator and in-reactor observation system using Cherenkov light.

Si semiconductor production by Neutron Transmutation Doping (NTD) method using the Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR) has been investigated in Neutron Irradiation and Testing Reactor Center, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) in order to expand industry use. As a part of investigations, irradiation test of silicon ingot for development of NTD-Si with high quality was planned using WWR-K in Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), National Nuclear Center of Republic of Kazakhstan (NNC-RK) based on one of specific topics of cooperation (STC), Irradiation Technology for NTD-Si (STC No.II-4), on the implementing arrangement between NNC-RK and the JAEA for "Nuclear Technology on Testing/Research Reactors" in cooperation in research and development in nuclear energy and technology. As for the irradiation test, Si rotating device was fabricated in JAEA, and the fabricated device was transported with irradiation specimens from JAEA to INP-NNC-RK. This report described the design, the fabrication, the performance test of the Si rotating device and transportation procedures.

JT-60U magnet system will be upgraded to the superconducting coils (JT-60SA) in the Broader Approach project. JT-60SA magnet system has 18 Toroidal Field coils, a Central Solenoid with 4 modules and 6 Equilibrium Field (EF) coils. This paper describes the manufacturing procedure of EF4 coil, that is the first manufactured EF coil of JT-60SA. The winding pack of EF4 coil was successfully manufactured within geometrical tolerance requirements.

The development of the friction welded joint between Zircaloy-2 (Zry-2) and Type 316L stainless steel (SUS316L) has been carried out for the fabrication of fuel irradiation capsules in Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR). The welding condition was determined from the fabrication test results of total loss and tensile strength. The joint interface was characterized by metallographic observation, elemental analysis and micro-hardness test. It was found that heat-affected zones at the joint interface were different between the center and outside positions. The tensile strength of the joint was equal to that of base Zry-2 metals at 300
C. And, the joint performance was good from the results of helium leak test and hydraulic pressure burst test. From the results of these tests, it was obvious that the Zry-2/SUS316L friction welded joints were promised to use for the structural material of irradiation capsules for fuel irradiation tests.

In the Fukushima accident, measurement failure of water level was one of the most important factors which caused this serious situation. The differential pressure type water level indicators are widely used in various place of nuclear plant but after the accident of TMI-2, the need of other reliable method has been demanded. And the BICOTH type and the TRICOTH type water level indicator for light water power reactors had been developed for in-pile water level indicator but currently those are not adopted to a nuclear power plant. In this study, the development of new type water level indicator which composed of thermocouple and heater, and the demonstration test and characteristic evaluation of the water level indicator were described.
