The researches on engineering technology in the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU) project consists of (1) development of design and construction planning technologies, (2) development of construction technology, (3) development of countermeasure technology, (4) development of technology for security, and (5) development of technologies for restoration and/or reduction of the excavation damage. The researches on engineering technology such as verification of the initial design were being conducted by using data measured during construction as a part of the second phase of the MIU plan. Examination about the plug for reflood test in the GL-500m Access/Research Gallery-North as part of the development of technologies for restoration and/or reduction of excavation damage were carried out. Specifically, Literature survey was carried out about the plug, based on the result of literature survey, examination of the design condition, design of the plug and rock stability using numerical simulation, selection of materials for major parts, and grouting for water inflow from between rock and plug, were carried out in this study.

A special committee of "Research on the analysis methods for accident consequence of nuclear fuel cycle facilities (NFCF)" was organized by the Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ) under the entrustment of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) for a research on the state-of-the-art of consequence analysis method for Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) of NFCF such as fuel reprocessing and fuel fabrication facilities. The objectives of this research is to obtain the basic useful information related for establishing the quantitative performance requirement and for risk-informed regulation through qualifying issues needed to be resolved for applying PSA to NFCF. In this technical report, it was summarized that the research result about basic experimental data related to the consequence of the radiolytically generated hydrogen gas explosion postulated in the radioactive solution reserve tank caused by the loss of dilution air supply.

A special committee of "Research on the analysis methods for accident consequence of nuclear fuel facilities (NFF)" was organized by the Atomic Energy Society of Japan under the entrustment of JAEA. The committee aims to research on the state-of-the-art of consequence analysis method for Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) of NFF such as fuel reprocessing and fuel fabrication facilities. The objective is to obtain the useful information related to establishing quantitative performance objectives and to risk-informed regulation through qualifying issues needed to be resolved for applying PSA to NFF. The research activities of the committee were mainly focused on the analysis method of consequences for postulated accidents with potentially large consequence in NFF resulting in release of radio active material to the environment. In this technical report, the research results about basic experimental data and method for safety evaluation for fire and explosion incidents were summarized.

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 310(2, Part1), p.e9 - e11, 2007/03

We measured the electrical resistivity and AC-specific heat for a canted ferromagnet CePtAl under pressures using a diamond-anvilpressure cell. With increasing pressure, the magnetic ordering temperature $$T_{rm C1}$$ increases monotonously, becomes constant above 8 GPa and then starts to decrease steeply in a narrow pressure region from 10.3 to 10.9 GPa, indicating the first-order like phase transition. The similar pressure dependence of $$T_{rm C1}$$ was obtained in the AC-specific heat measurement.

We have succeeded in growing a high-quality single crystal of an antiferromagnet UPdGa$$_5$$ by the Ga-flux method with the off-stoichiometric composition of U : Pd : Ga = 1 : 2 : 7.3. The electronic state has been investigated by the de Haas-van Alphen experiment, indicating the similar cylindrical Fermi surfaces as in an antiferromagnet UPtGa$$_5$$. We have also studied the pressure effect by measuring the electrical resistivity. The N$$acute{rm e}$$el temperature decreases with increasing pressure and becomes zero at 3.1 GPa. The antiferromagnetic state is changed into the paramagnetic state above 3.1 GPa.
