We observe a change in the relative intensity of bending versus stretching modes while scanning the photon energy across all three resonances. While this effect is known to be due to the Renner-Teller splitting in the core-excited states, we could derive that the antisymmetric stretching is excited mainly in the decay of the N terminal 1s-to- excitation. An explanation for such selectivity is provided in terms of interplay of vibrational structure on potential energy surfaces of different electronic states involved in the process.

The momenta of O fragments are recorded in coincidence with C(1s) KVV Auger electrons for 3 different photon energies and both vertical and horizontal polarization of the incident radiation. The angular distribution of the Auger electrons is found to be independent of both energy and polarization, and the two-step model deemed to be valid.

Times Cited Count:23 Percentile:72.33(Spectroscopy)Interatomic Coulombic decay (ICD) in Ar, ArKr and Kr following Ar 2p or Kr 3d Auger decay has been investigated by means of momentum-resolved electron-ion-ion-coincidence spectroscopy. This sequential decay leads to Coulombic dissociation into dication and monocation. Simultaneously determining the kinetic energy of the ICD electron and the kinetic energy release between the two atomic ions, we could unambiguously identify the ICD channels. We find that, in general, spin conserved ICD, in which the singlet (triplet) dicationic state produced via the atomic Auger decay preferentially decays to the singlet (triplet) state, transferring the energy to the other atom, is faster than the spin-flip ICD, in which the Auger final singlet (triplet) dicationic state decays to the triplet (singlet) state.

Deposition profiles of tungsten released from the outer divertor were studied in JT-60U. A neutron activation method was used for the first time to accurately measure deposited tungsten. Surface density of tungsten in the thick carbon deposition layer can be measured by this method. Tungsten was mainly deposited on the inner divertor (around inner strike points) and on the outer wing of the dome. Toroidal distribution of the W deposition was significantly localized near the tungsten released position, while other metallic impurities such as Fe, Cr, Ni were distributed more uniformly. These data indicate that inward drift in the divertor region played a significant role in tungsten transport in JT-60U.

Times Cited Count:4 Percentile:24.52(Spectroscopy)We report soft X-ray total ion yield and angular-resolved ion yield spectra of CFI in the C 1s, I 3d and F 1s ionisation regions, and tentatively assign the observed electronic states. Anisotropy in ion yield is observed only for the C 1s transition, indicating that the dipole moment for this transition is parallel to the C. The effusive source of CFI is heated to 800 K to produce a mixture of CF and I, and the resulting spectra are compared to those recorded at room temperature to reveal the first information on the inner-shell excitation of CF.

This paper describes a new structure of horizontally polarized shear(SH) wave electromagnetic acoustic transducer(EMAT). The EMAT with a Halbach magnet structure shows a stronger magnetic flux density as well as ultrasonic sound pressure than that of an EMAT with a general periodic permanent magnet(PPM) structure. The measured magnetic flux density and the ultrasound directivity distributions for both the Halbach and the PPM structure EMATs are in excellent agreement with those expected form a simulation calculation. The above EMATs were also used for inspection tests of many artificial slits; and it is found that the Halbach one performs a better detectability than the PPM one.

Tungsten was mainly deposited on the inner divertor (around the inner strike point) and the outer wing of the dome. Tungsten deposition on the dome was found only near the top surface (within depth of a few micron m), while tungsten on the inner divertor was codeposited with carbon to the depth up to about 60 micron m. Discussion on the relation between depth distribution of tungsten and EDX signals are also presented. Significant difference between tungsten and other metallic materials (Fe, Ni, Cr) in terms of toroidal deposition distribution on the outer wing was observed. Tungsten deposition was toroidally localized in the P-8 section, where tungsten coated tiles were installed. On the other hand, other metallic materials (Fe, Ni, Cr) were not toroidally localized compared with the case of tungsten.

Tungsten is considered as a candidate material for first wall armor of DT fusion reactors. However, it is anticipated that tritium might accumulate in the damage defects that caused by neutron irradiation. The present study measured deuterim accumulation in tungsten specimen after high energy hydrogen ion beam irradiation for generation of irradiation damages and then low energy deuterium beams for their accumulation. As a result, the deuterium accumulation in irradiated tungsten was enhanced as high as six times than that of original specimen.
