Times Cited Count:0 Percentile:0.00(Robotics)We develop a test method to evaluate the vertical moving performance of an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) in a narrow environment, specifically performance for ascending through a narrow aperture. This research aims to boost the UAS industry by pushing for the expansion of UAS use into various places and situations. UAS users should know whether the UAS performance is enough to achieve their objectives and what UAS suits them. However, discussing what/how much UASs can do is complex, especially in a place or situation affecting some UAS functions. Thus, the test method provides an easy-to-understand evaluation of UAS performance for mobility to access a destination in a narrow environment, even for UAS users without technical knowledge. To develop an acceptable test method for the UAS industry, we repeatedly held demonstrations and discussions with UAS manufacturers and users to incorporate their opinions from the early stages of this research. In addition, the experiments show that the test method appropriately indicates the difference in UAS performance. This paper describes the approach of UAS performance evaluation to promote the UAS industry, the development along with UAS users' opinions, and the result of the experiments to compare the type of UAS and consideration.

-XRF). The results identified two forms of cesium: one dissolved in glass and the other enriched on the surfaces of internal voids. The latter is considered to have originally existed as a gas and became concentrated during the cooling and solidification of the molten glass. These findings are crucial for understanding the formation process of CsMPs during the accident, as well as for future decommissioning and safety assessments.

LiCoO
is widely used as a cathode material in lithium-ion batteries. However, the reversible capacity of LiCoO
at high voltage is not well known because of the oxidative degradation of the electrolyte. In this study, a thin-film all-solid-state battery was fabricated with epitaxially grown LiCoO
cathode and Li
PO
solid electrolyte as a model battery that operates stably at high voltages, ranging up to 4.6 V, without drastic degradation. However, the charge-discharge capacities of the battery decreased with cycling at 4.7 V.
synchrotron X-ray diffraction studies revealed that LiCoO
was deactivated via a change in its crystal structure to O1 type, with narrow interlayer distances, at 4.7 V. The reduced distance between the interlayers in the O1 structure possibly prevents the re-intercalation of Li ions, leading to irreversibility.

To study the performance of the TES detector with a high-intensity pulsed charged-particle beam, we measured X-ray spectra with a pulsed muon beam at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) in Japan. We found substantial temporal shifts of the X-ray energy correlated with the arrival time of the pulsed muon beam, which was reasonably explained by pulse pileup due to the incidence of energetic particles from the initial pulsed beam.

To develop an analytical method for measuring the horizontal and vertical distributions of radiocesium on a wide scale, we obtained 253
-ray spectra using a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector at the bottom of 64 ponds in Fukushima during 2014-2016. The depth profile of sediment-associated radiocesium was found to be correlated with intensities of scattered and photo peaks. In parallel, core sediments were collected in same ponds to validate the estimates. Good agreement was observed between the results of in situ spectrometry and core sampling. These results indicated that our developed method would be a good approach for understanding the behavior of radiocesium and determining whether decontamination of reservoirs is required.

process of a polystyrene thin film using inelastic neutron scattering (INS), dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS), and thermal expansion spectroscopy (TES). The DRS and TES measurements exhibited a decrease in glass transition temperature (
) with film thickness. On the other hand, an increase in
was observed in INS studies. In order to interpret this contradiction, we investigated the temperature dependence of the peak frequency (
) of the
process probed by DRS and TES. The experiments revealed an increase in the peak frequency (
) with decreasing film thickness in the frequency region. This observation is consistent with the observed decrease in
with thickness. The discrepancy between INS and DRS or TES descriptions of the
process is likely to be attributed to a decrease in the apparent activation energy with film thickness and reduced mobility, due to the impenetrable wall effect.

The neutron instruments suite, installed at the spallation neutron source of the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), is reviewed. MLF has 23 neutron beam ports and 21 instruments are in operation for user programs or are under commissioning. A unique and challenging instrumental suite in MLF has been realized via combination of a high-performance neutron source, optimized for neutron scattering, and unique instruments using cutting-edge technologies. All instruments are/will serve in world-leading investigations in a broad range of fields, from fundamental physics to industrial applications. In this review, overviews, characteristic features, and typical applications of the individual instruments are mentioned.

Times Cited Count:125 Percentile:99.71(Nuclear Science & Technology)We performed a benchmark study for 58 cases using the recent version 2.88 of the Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System (PHITS) in the following fields: particle production cross-sections for nuclear reactions, neutron transport calculations, and electro-magnetic cascade. This paper reports details for 22 cases. In cases of nuclear reactions with energies above 100 MeV and electro-magnetic cascade, overall agreements were found to be satisfactory. On the other hand, PHITS did not reproduce the experimental data for an incident proton energy below 100 MeV, because the intranuclear cascade model INCL4.6 in PHITS is not suitable for the low-energy region. For proton incident reactions over 100 MeV, PHITS did not reproduce fission product yields due to the problem of high-energy fission process in the evaporation model GEM. To overcome these inaccuracies, we are planning to incorporate a high-energy version of the evaluated nuclear data library JENDL-4.0/HE, and so on.
