The luminescence of Eu was measured with a proton beam obtained from the single-ended accelerator and an argon ion beam obtained from the azimuthally varying field cyclotron in Takasaki Ion Accelerators for Advanced Radiation Application in National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology. In this study, it was confirmed that the spectral shape of Eu complexes in the adsorbents varied depending on the kinds of extractants, and the correlation between the change in the spectra and the structures of Eu complexes was investigated.

In an extraction chromatography method for minor actinides recovery, analysis for the structure of complex in a silica-based adsorbent has been studied to separate minor actinides efficiently. In this study, Eu was used as simulated material of minor actinides, and silica-based adsorbents containing Eu complex were prepared. The ion beam induced luminescence spectra of Eu complexes in silica-based adsorbents were measured, and the basic data for the structures of Eu complexes were obtained.

Reflectance spectra of excavated material exhibit a hydroxyl (OH) absorption feature that is slightly stronger and peak-shifted compared with that observed for the surface, indicating that space weathering and/or radiative heating have caused subtle spectral changes in the uppermost surface. However, the strength and shape of the OH feature still suggests that the subsurface material experienced heating above 300 C, similar to the surface. In contrast, thermophysical modeling indicates that radiative heating does not increase the temperature above 200 C at the estimated excavation depth of 1 m, even if the semimajor axis is reduced to 0.344 au. This supports the hypothesis that primary thermal alteration occurred due to radiogenic and/or impact heating on Ryugu's parent body.

A calculation program was developed to evaluate and discuss the effectiveness of the countermeasures such as sodium pump-up and siphon-breaking against the loss-of-reactor-level (LORL) where the coolant circulation path is lost in loop-type sodium-cooled fast reactors. Due to the non-negligible possibility obtained by probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), sodium leakages in two points both occurred in primary heat transport system (PHTS) was assumed in this study. In addition, the crack size was discussed and evaluated realistically, instead of the value that was assumed in the conventional studies. Representative sequences and leakage positions were chosen, and the sodium level transient in reactor vessel (RV) was calculated. The calculations were also conducted where the larger crack size was set for the second leakage, in order to investigate additional requirements to maintain the RV sodium level. The evaluation results clarified that the coolant circulation loop can be maintained even after the second leakage in PHTS, taking into account the effects by the countermeasures.

The loss-of-reactor-level (LORL) is one of the loss-of-heat-removal-system (LOHRS) of beyond-DBA (BDBA) severe accident. An evaluation method for the LORL which is caused by the coolant leakage in two positions of the primary heat transport system (PHTS) was developed for prototype JSFR which is loop-type sodium-cooled fast reactor. The secondary leakage in cold standby which occurred in different loop from that of the first leakage in rated power operation can lead LORL by excessive declining of the sodium level. Therefore, the sodium level behavior in RV was studied in a representative accident sequence by considering the sodium pumping up into RV, siphon-breaking to stop pumping out from RV and maintain the sodium level, and calculation programs for the transient sodium level in RV. The representative sequence with lowest sodium level was selected by considering combinations of possible leakage positions. As a result of the evaluation considering the countermeasures above, it was revealed that the LOHRS can be prevented by maintaining the sodium level for the operation of decay heat removal system, even in the leakages in two positions of PHTS which corresponds to BDBA.

Lead-Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) is a candidate material as a neutron generation target and a coolant in an Accelerator Driven System (ADS) proposed by Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). In the LBE of ADS, a large amount of radioactive materials is produced as spallation product (SP) via spallation reactions between a proton beam and the LBE. As the results, the LBE is highly activated due to the radioactive SPs. It is important to evaluate the release and transport behavior of the SPs from the LBE coolant to the cover gas from the viewpoints of the radiological hazard both in the cases of normal operation and accident. In the present study, in order to understand the evaporation behavior of Cs and Rb, which are produced in large amounts among alkaline metal elements, from the LBE, the chemical species and vapor pressures were measured using a Knudsen effusion mass spectrometer (KEMS). As the results, Cs and Rb were found to be easily evaporated than LBE.
