Bromine and iodine contents in geological samples can be used as useful tools to understand various environmental phenomena such as past sea-level changes, geological uplift and subsidence, as well as marine incursion to the inland due to paleo tsunami and storm surges. In this study, we measured bromine and iodine contents in possible standard materials and lake sediment samples using the WDXRF at Tono Geoscience Center and polarizing EDXRF at Tohoku University. We compared both results and confirmed that the WDXRF method for Bromine and iodine content determinations can provide the reliable results.

Hydrogen production depends on its water level and dissolved species because hydrogen is oxidized by radicals in water. It is possible to evaluate hydrogen production rate in Herschelite submerged in seawater or pure water by taking into account of the depth effect of the water. The reference vessel of decay heat 504 W with or without residual pure water was evaluated for the hydrogen concentration by thermal hydraulic analysis using obtained fundamental properties. Maximum hydrogen concentration was below the lower explosive limit (4 %). The steady-state corrosion potential of a stainless steel 316L increased with absorbed dose rate but its increase was repressed by the presence of Herschelite. At 750 Gy/h and

C which were values evaluated at the bottom of the vessel of 504 W, the localized corrosion of SUS316L contacted with Herschelite would not immediately occur under 20,000 ppm of Cl
concentration.

Spent zeolite adsorption vessels in the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant are kept for long-term with washing out with fresh water for prevention of corrosion remaining salt component in vessel. However, corrosion result is concerned by residual concentration of salt component, washing out experiment is carried out using actual and unspent adsorption vessel (KURION). KURION adsorption vessel is filled with 1,650 ppm of sodium chloride (1,000 ppm of chloride ion) and washed out with pure water for estimating washing effect in this experiment. Pure water is streamed with volume flow rate 4.5 m
/h, chloride concentration in vessel is measured with drainage sample water. 1,000 ppm of chloride concentration is decreased till 0.5 ppm and below by washing out with about double pure water volume of adsorbing material filling volume in vessel, washing out is more effective in KURION adsorption vessel.

As a part of the long-term storage policy analysis of the abolished zeolite adsorber which occurred in water treatment of the Fukushima first Nuclear Power Plant accident, electrochemical corrosion test of stainless steel (SUS316L) in the zeolite including the artificial sea water and a corrosion test were performed for corrosion estimate of the adsorber. Natural zeolite (mordenite) of the Aiko product and Herschelite of the Kurion company offer were used for zeolite. Using commercial SUS316L stainless steel, a pitting potential measurement and a corrosion test in the zeolite presence including the artificial sea water were performed. The simplicity immersion test that zeolite did not coexist for comparison went. The big difference did not produce it so that zeolite presence and the value that could get resembled pit initiation potential provided by a simple digestion. The environment in the adsorber has many any questions, but it is considered that possibility of the local corrosion in the tower can be lowered like consequence to be provided by a simplicity digestion if Cl
ion concentration can decrease by cleaning in appropriate tower.

Polarized neutron reflectometry is one of the powerful methods to investigate various phenomena on the surfaces and interfaces of a variety of films with layered structures such as magnetic materials. In this instrument, a two-dimensional position-sensitive neutron detection system consists of multi-wire proportional chamber (MWPC) with helium-3 gas and its data reduction software have been developed for the measurement of off-specular reflectivity and grazing incidence small-angle neutron scattering (GISANS). Each wire signal is read out by amplifier-shaper-discriminator (ASD) individually to meet with demands for a fast counting response and high spatial resolution for the measurement at intense pulsed neutron sources. The pitch between anode/cathode wires is 1.0 mm. The spatial resolution was 1.8 mm. We report characterization results of 2-D MWPC system at BL17 and its applications to neutron reflectivity measurements.
