Currently, the experimental data available on double-differential thick-target neutron yields (DDTTNYs) is insufficient, especially for deuteron energies between 18 and 33 MeV. In this study, we measured the DDTTNYs of () reactions on C target for incident deuteron energies of 12, 20, and 30 MeV using the multiple-foils activation method to improve nuclear data insufficiency. We applied the GRAVEL code for the unfolding process to derive the DDTTNYs. The results were compared with the calculation by DEURACS. The present data were also used to confirm the systematics of the differential neutron yields at 0 and total neutron yield per incident deuteron in the wide range of deuteron energy.

Er silicides formed during the deposition are eliminated via the annealing, which results in the single phase and the smooth surface of the ErO thin films. The epitaxial relationship between Si (100) and ErO (110) is clarified by X-ray diffraction and reflection high energy electron diffraction.

The number of research reactors in the world is decreasing because of their aging. However, the planning to introduce the nuclear power plants is increasing in Asian countries. In these Asian countries, the key issue is the human resource development for operation and management of nuclear power plants after constructed them, and also the necessity of research reactor, which is used for lifetime extension of LWRs, progress of the science and technology, expansion of industry use, human resources training and so on, is increasing. From above backgrounds, the Neutron Irradiation and Testing Reactor Center began to discuss basic concept of a multipurpose low-power research reactor for education and training, etc. This design study is expected to contribute not only to design tool improvement and human resources development in the Neutron Irradiation and Testing Reactor Center but also to maintain and upgrade the technology on research reactors in nuclear power-related companies. This report treats the activities of the working group from July 2010 to June 2011 on the multipurpose low-power research reactor in the Neutron Irradiation and Testing Reactor Center and nuclear power-related companies.

Photons and charged particles were measured by the PHENIX experiment. Event structure was compared with the results from PYTHIA event generator. The production rate of reconstructed jets is satisfactorily reproduced with the next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation. We measured = -0.0014 0.0037 at the lowest bin and -0.0181 0.0282 at the highest bin. The measured is compared with the predictions that assume various distributions.

We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as and scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to collisions.

We performed small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets to get information on the averaged internal microstructure of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets including the interfacial structure which is a key parameter to achieve a high-coercivity Dy-free Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet. SANS patterns from the Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets measured with a two-dimensional detector of a small-angle neutron scattering spectrometer SANS-J-II in the research reactor JRR-3 were sensitive to the sintering and annealing condition of the samples. These results indicate that the SANS measurement is a promising tool to investigate the correlation between the coercivity and the internal microstructure of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets.

A neodymium iron boron (Nd-Fe-B) sintered magnet is the most powerful permanent magnet among the commercially available ones. Dysprosium (Dy), however, has to be added in Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets to keep the high above the room temperature or high-temperature applications. Dy-less or Dy-free Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets are now highly demanded because Dy is one of the rare metals. We performed small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements of sintered Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets to elucidate the correlation between the coercivity and averaged internal structures of this magnet. Such correlation is a clue to achieve the Dy-less or Dy-free Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets. In this talk, we report the detailed results of the experiments and the correlation revealed by the SANS measurements.

Progress on technical development on ITER and JT-60SA neutral beam injector (NBI) were reported. In development of a 1 MV insulating transformer for ITER NB power supply, a bushing extracting 1 MV required a huge insulator that was impossible to manufacture. To solve this issue, a composite bushing with FRP tube and a small condenser bushing with insulation gas was newly developed. In development the HV bushing as an insulating feed through, voltage holding in large cylindrical electrodes inside the HV bushing was investigated. The scaling for vacuum insulation design of large cylindrical electrodes was obtained. Toward long pulse production and acceleration of negative ion beam, active control system of plasma grid temperature and a new extractor consisting of the extraction grid with high water cooling capability and aperture offset were developed. As a result, 15 negative ion beam has been achieved for 100 s. Also beam energy density has been increased two orders of magnitude.

Ion beam sputter deposition method has been successfully employed to obtain highly-oriented ErO thin film on Si substrate. In this study, thermal annealing of the "as deposited" film was performed under the same atmosphere as in the sputter deposition process. The XRD analysis revealed that the obtained film was found to grow in other orientations, which are not in the epitaxial relationship with Si(100) substrate. These findings were compared with previously obtained results to discuss the possible film growth mechanism.

Sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets consist of NdFeB main phase with about 5m diameter and Nd-rich grain boundary phase. It is well known that the coercivity of sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets is highly dominated by this Nd-rich phase, which is reported to change from discontinuous to continuous arrangement by a low temperature annealing around 500600C. We have shown that the coercivity of sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets can be further increased by applying a high magnetic field during the annealing. We found that such a coercivity enhancement phenomenon occurred only when a small amount of Cu is added, and when the annealing temperature is around 500C or 550C. In this paper, we report on the results of interface nanostructure analysis by DSC and Small Angle Neutron Scattering experiments to investigate the reason magnetic field effect occurs only in Cu-containing samples at specific annealing temperatures.
