We performed angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) experiments using soft X rays to investigate the electronic structure of the heavy-fermion superconductor UPt. The overall band structure revealed by the present ARPES measurements is compared with density-functional calculations for UPt and the non- reference compound ThPt. We showed that the calculation for ThPt gives a better description of the experimental band structure, except for the -derived heavy quasiparticle bands. This situation is reminiscent of Ce-based heavy-fermion systems, whose band structures are often very similar to those of non- La-based compounds. The narrow heavy quasiparticle bands are located just below the Fermi level (), and their band structure could not be resolved by the present energy resolution. We also showed that most of the U spectral weight exists not as the coherent heavy-fermion bands but as incoherent components that distribute over a wide energy range, spanning from near to approximately 2 eV. This result indicates that the heavy quasiparticle bands are enormously renormalized by the electron correlation effect. Additionally, we showed that the spectral intensity of the heavy-fermion bands is almost temperature independent, at least up to 100 K, where the magnetic susceptibility follows a Curie-Weiss behavior.

被引用回数:0 パーセンタイル:0.00(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)We investigated the element-specific electronic states and magnetic properties of ferromagnetic superconductor UCoGe and Ru-substituted U(CoRu)Ge using soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) experiments. YCoGe, a nonmagnetic compound without the 5 electrons, was also examined as a reference material. The shapes of the XMCD spectra of UCoGe at the U and Ge edges are indistinguishably similar to those of U(CoRu)Ge. On the other hand, the XMCD spectral shape at the Co edge is very peculiar and is changed by the existence of the U 5 electrons and the Ru substitution. From the sum rule analysis for the XMCD spectra, it was found that the magnetic moments of the U 5 and Co 3 electrons in UCoGe and U(CoRu)Ge are aligned in the same direction under the present experimental conditions; = 5.5 - 50 K and = 0 - 10 T. Furthermore, even in the case of YCoGe, the Co 3 electrons have a large orbital magnetic moment, suggesting that the Co 3 electrons in these compounds are in a low symmetric electronic environment originally. Through the - and -dependence of the XMCD intensity, it was revealed that the magnetic properties at the Co site are not simply induced by the magnetism at the U site and that the Co 3 electrons play an important role in the stability of ferromagnetism.

被引用回数:1 パーセンタイル:52.21(Physics, Multidisciplinary)UTeの単結晶の物理的性質を調べた。UTeが3つの非等価な結晶ウランサイトを持つ六方晶構造を持つことを確認した。常磁性モーメントは、すべてのサイトで一様なモーメントを仮定すると、ウランサイトあたり約1と推定される。強磁性相転移は=48Kで発生し、面内磁化は急激に増加するが、面外成分はあまり増加しない。磁場冷却条件下で温度がさらに以下に低下すると、面外成分はT=26K付近で急激に増加する。対照的に、T付近で面内成分はほとんど変化しない。比熱測定では、T付近に型の異常がないことが示されているため、これらの振る舞いは、秩序した磁気モーメントの再配向、もしくは複数のウランサイトの連続した逐次磁気転移を示唆している。

被引用回数:18 パーセンタイル:90.63(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)スピン三重項超伝導体UTeの新規合成ルートとして溶融塩フラックス法を適用した。合成条件を最適化した結果、今までで最高の超伝導転移温度 Kを記録した。これらの単結晶は、著しく大きな残留抵抗率比を示し、以下における残留比熱も小さくなった。これらはウラン空孔による結晶欠陥が減少したことを示しており、溶融塩フラックス中の余剰金属ウランが、還元雰囲気を作り、四価ウランが五価となるのを防ぎウラン空孔生成を抑制しているようだ。また、低融点フラックスがテルルの蒸発を防ぐ効果も期待できる。

Superconducting samples are nearly stoichiometric within an experimental error of about 1%, while non-superconducting sample significantly deviates from the ideal composition. The superconducting UTe showed that the large density of states was partially gapped in the normal state, while the non-superconducting sample is characterized by the relatively large electronic specific heat as reported previously.

The authors developed a three-dimensional seismic isolation system to ensure isolation performance in the vertical and horizontal directions. This isolation system is required for a large-scale disc spring to achieve both the support and isolation functions. This paper describes an optimal combination method of disc springs to absorb the variance caused by the manufacturing process by calibrating the combination using a metaheuristic algorithm. Moreover, a method to identify the variables of the hysteresis loops caused by the combined disc springs is proposed using the metaheuristic algorithm. The applicability of these methods is verified using the static loading tests data obtained by a large-scale disc spring that expands the dimensions defined by the JIS B 2706:2013 and the ISO 19690-1:2017. This paper demonstrates that the proposed method can control the restoring force and identify the variables required for hysteresis loops accurately and efficiently.

The band structure and Fermi surfaces of were obtained by angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), and the results were well-explained by the band-structure calculation based on the local density approximation. The comparison between the ARPES spectra and the band-structure calculation suggests that the Fermi surface of mainly consists of the and states with a minor contribution from the states. The comparison of the band structures between and argues that the states form Fermi surfaces in through hybridization with the state in the layer, suggesting that the Fermi surface of has a strong three-dimensional nature.

Longitudinal magnetic fluctuations were observed in the spin-echo decay rate near the ferromagnetic critical point where superconductivity takes place. This result strongly suggests that superconductivity in ferromagnets is universally mediated by anisotropic magnetic fluctuations.

The three-dimensional (3D) electronic structure of the hidden order compound in a paramagnetic phase was revealed using a 3D angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy where the electronic structure of the entire Brillouin zone is obtained by scanning both incident photon energy and detection angles of photoelectrons. The quasi-particle bands with enhanced contribution from the state were observed near , formed by the hybridization with the states. The energy dispersion of the quasi-particle band is significantly depend on, indicating that they inherently have a 3D nature. The band-structure calculation qualitatively explain the characteristic features of the band structure and Fermi surface although the electron correlation effect strongly renormalizes the quasi-particle bands. The 3D and strongly-correlated nature of the quasi-particle bands in is an essential ingredient for modeling its hidden-order transition.

希土類(4)やアクチノイド(5)は、電子数の増加とともに複雑さを増し、様々な相互作用が競合して多様な状態が出現する。多体電子系の結晶場分裂はバンド幅より狭いため、(1)高分解能の実験が必要で、(2)遍歴的なCeやU化合物は本質的に明瞭なスペクトルを示さない。また、(3)国際規制物質NpやPuなど超アクチノイド元素の取り扱いは厳しく規制されている。そこで比較的局在性の強い物質や希土類関連物質の、中性子散乱実験による磁気励起の研究が有益である。本稿では重い電子系化合物NpPdAlと関連物質の電子状態について述べる。

Crystal structure and magnetic property of UPtAl is investigated. A single crystal X-ray diffraction experiment identified the hexagonal unit cell with a disordered structure in the uranium containing layer. A series of superstructure reflections were found. They are successfully indexed as (/3 /3 0), however, with a streak along the direction. A layered structure model containing honeycomb arrangement of uranium atoms is proposed. Preliminary magnetization measurements on a polycrystalline sample are also presented.

The quasiparticle spin susceptibility was obtained from the measurements. The field dependence of the susceptibility suggests that the -vector freely rotates in magnetic field. It is therefore concluded that spin-orbit interaction, which confines the direction of the -vector with respect to the crystal axis, is weak in UPt.

被引用回数:11 パーセンタイル:52.06(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)In the present study, we have elucidated the nature of the electron correlation effect in uranium compounds by imaging the partial density of states (pDOS) of typical itinerant, localized, and heavy fermion uranium compounds by using the 4-5 resonant photoemission spectroscopy. Obtained pDOS exhibit a systematic trend depending on the physical properties of compounds: Although the coherent peak at the Fermi level can be explained by the band-structure calculation, an incoherent peak emerges on the higher binding energy side () in the cases of localized and heavy fermion compounds. The intensity and energy position of the incoherent peak is increased and shifted to a higher binding energy as the localization of the state increases. These behaviors are consistent with the prediction of the Mott metal-insulator transition, suggesting that the Hubbard- type mechanism takes an essential role in the electronic structure of actinide materials.
