Diffusion coefficients of DO in the films was determined in order to estimate corrosion rate of carbon steel for the overpack in ground water. Fe plates were heated to form oxide films. The films were characterized with XRD and SEM. After that, the specimen was contacted with D
O for 5184 ks, followed by subjected to TDS to obtain an amount of D
O absorbing into the film. As a result, single-layered film of Fe
O
was formed at 573 and 723 K, and double-layered film of Fe
O
and Fe
O
was formed at 873 K. It was found that an amount of D
O in the film correlated linearly with a square root of the absorption period, and that the amount was steady for a long period. From the results and Fick's second law, diffusion coefficients of D
O was determined as 9.7

The Compact ERL (cERL) project is advanced in Japan. Its aim is to demonstrate the circulation of 100 mA electron beams with energy of 35-200 MeV. Superconducting cavities are key components for realizing ERL and used for injector part and main linac part. Critical issue for the injector part is the development of input power coupler. Prototype input couplers were fabricated and high power test was performed. Cooling ability of HOM coupler is also important for CW operation of cavity. At main linac part, HOM damped 9-cell cavities are applied to avoid BBU instabilities. Prototypes were fabricated for the cavity, the input coupler and the HOM absorber. Their performance was investigated. For both parts, cryomodules are under construction and will be completed in 2012.

Future synchrotron light source using a 5-GeV energy recovery linac (ERL) is under proposal by our Japanese collaboration team, and we are conducting R&D efforts for that. We are developing high-brightness DC photocathode guns, two types of cryomodules for both injector and main superconducting (SC) linacs, and 1.3 GHz high CW-power RF sources. We are also constructing the Compact ERL (cERL) for demonstrating the recirculation of low-emittance, high-current beams using above-mentioned critical technologies.

Construction of the Compact ERL is planned in Japan, in order to test the key technology to realize a future ERL based X-ray light source. The operation of 60-200 MeV beam energy and 100 mA beam current are proposed. The superconducting cavity is one of the key components and applied for the injector part and the main linac part. At the injector part, most challenging issue is an input coupler, which has to handle more than 300 kW input power per cavity. On the other hand, strong HOM damping is required for the main linac, in order to avoid beam instabilities and large heat load at cryomodules. Status of cavity developments, together with cryomodule developments, including input couplers and HOM couplers/absorbers, are described in this paper.

In KEK, the new Superconducting RF Test Facility(STF) is being constructed, including the electro-polish system (EP), the high pressure rinsing system (HPR), the clean-room, the refrigerator system, the high power RF source system, and the vertical test system. The cavity is generally measured in the vertical cryostat for the performance test. The new vertical test facility was constructed since the last year, and completed at the beginning of March. The first test was done for the total system check at the beginning of July.

Radiation-induced stress relaxation (RISR) test under uniaxial loading condition for tensile type specimens was carried out for type 316L stainless steel (SS). The specimens were irradiated in the Japan Materials Testing Reactor at 561 K to three dose levels (0.1-3 dpa) under four displacement constrained condition (prestrain range; 0.06-0.75%) in order to apply residual stress. Radiation hardening behavior and IASCC susceptibility of the RISR-tested 316L SS were examined by slow strain rate testing (SSRT) in oxygenated high temperature water. It was concluded from the SSRT results that the RISR had little influence on the radiation hardening behavior and IASCC susceptibility in the 316L SS. In all specimens, the residual stress rapidly decreased with increasing dose, and the residual stress level after irradiation was much lower than the stress level to initiate IASCC.

Superficial velocities up to 6m/s in 20mm-diameter tube are tested. We focused on a slug flow regime in which centrifugal acceleration dominates the flow. The interfacial structure is visualized in six directions using a set of originally designed mirror-mounted water jackets. A temporal expansion image is made from line-sampled images, and is used to reconstruct phase distribution through a linear backward projection algorithm. The present topography measurement showed various new features of gas-liquid two-phase flow in a helically coiled tube, such as a wall-covering effect in the case of high superficial velocity.

We carried out reflection seismic and multi-offset VSP surveys at JNC Shobasama-site to develop the investigation technique in the granite area, and evaluated the applicability of these geophysical methods. As the result of this study, we consider that a) It is possible to infer the existence of the lower angle fracture zone in the granite by eflection seismic survey and b) Multi-offset VSP supplements the result of reflection seismic survey and it is possible to infer the distribution of the fracture zone in deeper area in the granite.
