Ultralow energy magnon in yttrium iron garnet crystal has been studied by inelastic neutron scattering in an energy range from 10 to 45 eV. When a magnetic field of about 0.1 T is applied along [111], ultralow energy magnon anomaly is found at 10 K.

Magnetic structure has been studied by using neutron diffraction for quasi one-dimensional quantum spin system LiZrCuO
with CuO
ribbon chains. The CuO
ribbon system Li
ZrCuO
exhibits the antiferromagnetic transition at T
7 K, however, the magnetic transition is not accompanied with ferroelectricity. At 3K, we observed magnetic superlattice reflections at Q = (0, k, l
) and (h, 0, l
) (h, k and l = even) with
0.488 by the powder neutron diffraction. By the combined studies of neutron diffraction and magnetization data, the magnetic structure of Li
ZrCuO
is proposed. On the bases of the obtained data, reasons for absence of ferroelectricity in Li
ZrCuO
are discussed.

We have carried out the neutron scattering measurements for a single crystal of LaCoRh
O
in order to investigate the ferromagnetic ordering induced by Rh
substitution for Co
of LaCoO
. The ordered moment is evaluated to be 0.4
0.2
, which is consistent with the saturation magnetization of LaCo
Rh
O
. It indicates that the ferromagnetic ordering of LaCo
Rh
O
originates from the short-range ferromagnetic ordering disordered by Rh
ions.

O
have been carried out in order to investigate the structural properties related with the spin state of Co
ions. We have found that the values of the Co(Rh)-O bond lengths in the Co(Rh)O
octahedron of LaCo
Rh
O
are nearly identical at 10 K. The lattice volume for the Rh
substituted samples decreases with the thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of LaCoO
from room temperature, and ceases to decrease around 70 K. These experimental results favor a mixed state consisting of the high-spin state and low-spin state Co
ions, and suggest that the high-spin state Co
ions are thermally excited in addition to those pinned by the substituted Rh
ions.

y(D
O) have been carried out. Strong 2-D diffuse scattering due to the short-range ordered state of D
O molecules are observed. Significant scattering has been also observed for phonons originating from the vibrations of the short-range ordered D
O molecules. No firm evidence for the magnetic fluctuations has been found for the hydrated superconducting component Na
CoO
y(D
O), while the very weak intensity modulation observed in the scans along (1/2,1/2,l) suggests the existence of the antiferromagnetic fluctuations in the non-hydrated parts of the sample.

BaZnRu
O
does not show a Curie tail in the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility and shows a constant magnetic susceptibility at low temperatures, suggesting the possibility of it being a new type of quantum spin liquid. A ferromagnetic component appears from around 80 K in the magnetic susceptibility of a sample in which part of the Ru
is replaced by nonmagnetic Nb
. This peculiar magnetic property is believed to originate from the competition between intra-Ru dimer interactions and inter-dimer interactions. In order to understand the microscopic magnetism of this material system, we carried out powder neutron diffraction and
SR experiments on Ba
Zn(Ru
Nb
)
O
. As a result, the sample with x=0 is considered to be in a state in which antiferromagnetic order and spin liquid coexist.
