The second hydration layer of Rb and Cl becomes evident under elevated pressure and temperature conditions. The average oxygen coordination number of Rb (Cl) in the first hydration layer increases from 6.3 (5.9) ambient pressure to 8.9 (9.1) at 4 GPa, while decreasing coordination distance from 0.290 nm (0.322 nm) to 0.288 nm (0.314 nm). The orientation of the water dipole in the first solvation shell of Rb and a central water molecule is sensitive to pressure, but that in the first solvation shell of Cl does not change very much. The number of contact-ion pairs Rb-Cl decreases with elevated temperature and increases with elevated pressure. Water molecules are closely packed, and the tetrahedral hydrogen-bonded network of water molecules no longer exists in extreme conditions.

Using neutron scattering and ab initio calculations, we report here a mechanism of static local structure distortion combined with phonon-anharmonic-induced ultralow lattice thermal conductivity in -MgAgSb. Since the transverse acoustic phonons are almost fully scattered by the intrinsic distorted rocksalt sublattice in this compound, the heat is mainly transported by the longitudinal acoustic phonons. The ultralow thermal conductivity in -MgAgSb is attributed to its atomic dynamics being altered by the structure distortion, which presents a possible microscopic route to enhance the performance of similar thermoelectric materials.

The increase of Doppler broadening S parameter indicates introduction of arge vacancy clusters. Post-implantation annealing at temperatures up to 800C makes these vacancy clusters to agglomerate into microvoids. The vacancy clusters or microvoids show high thermal stability, and they are only partially removed after annealing up to 1000C. Amorphous regions are observed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy measurement, which directly confirms that amorphization is induced by C-implantation. The disordered GaN lattice is possibly due to special feature of carbon impurities, which enhance the damage buildup during implantation.

The previously known bands based on the and configurations have been extended to high-spin states, and new rotational bands associated with the and Nilsson orbits have been identified. The total Routhian surface calculations indicate that the transitional nucleus Pt is very soft with respect to and deformations. The band properties have been compared with the systematics observed in neiboring nuclei and have been interpreted within the framework of the cranked shell model.

The bands in the three nuclei have been identified and extended up to high-spin states. In particlular, the interband connection between the band and the ground-state band in Au have been established, leading to a firm spin-and-parity assignment for the band. The low-spin signature inversion is found in the bands in Au.

The 3 GeV Proton RCS of the JAERI-KEK Joint Project is a 25 Hz separate-function rapid cycling synchrotron under design. Bending magnets (BM) and quadrupole magnets (QM) are excited separately. The 3 GeV RCS requests above 10 families of magnets excited independently, far beyond 3 families in practical RCS's. Difficulty of field tracking between BM and QM is significantly increased Magnet strings are grouped into resonant networks and excited resonantly by power supplies driven by a waveform pattern, typically a DC-biased sinusoidal signal. To achieve a close tracking between many families, the driving signal of each power supply should be adjusted in phase and amplitude flexibly and dynamically. This report proposes a signal generator based on VXIbus. The VXIbus, an extension of VMEbus (VME eXtension for Instrument), provides an open architecture with shared process bus and timing. The VXIbus-based signal generator facilitates the timing synchronization and extension to many channels needed by the 3 GeV RCS. Experimental results of the signal generator are reported.

High Intensity Proton Accelerator Facility is under design. 3 GeV proton synchrotron is one of its facility. It has about ten families of magnets. Resonant type power supplies are adopted to excite their magnet families at 25 Hz. Magnetic field of each magnet family has to track each other at high precision of 1E-4. In this paper current control of power supply is studied. Phase angle of current is affected by variations of capacitance of resonant capacitors caused by temperature. A correction of current reference is necessary realize the performance.
