The Transport Model Evaluation Project (TMEP) has been pursued to test the robustness of transport model predictions to reach consistent conclusions from the same type of physical model. To this end, calculations under controlled conditions of physical input and set-up were performed by the various participating codes. These included both calculations of nuclear matter in a periodic box, which test individual ingredients of a transport code, and calculations of complete collisions of heavy ions. Over the years, five studies were performed within this project. They show, on one hand, that in box calculations the differences between the codes can be well understood and a convergence of the results can be reached. These studies also highlight the systematic differences between the two families of transport codes, known under the names of Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) and Quantum Molecular Dynamics (QMD) type codes. On the other hand, there still exist substantial differences when these codes are applied to real heavy-ion collisions. The results of transport simulations of heavy-ion collisions will have more significance if codes demonstrate that they can verify benchmark calculations such as the ones studied in these evaluations.

Owing to their importance for safety assessment of heavy-ion accelerators and dosimetry of astronauts, various models to simulate heavy-ion induced reaction models are developed. This study is intended to clarify the difference among them to pinpoint their problems. In the comparison study, 320 protons and neutrons were packed in a 20-fm-large cube to calculate the number and energies of collisions during the time evolution. The author contributed to this study by running calculation using JQMD (JAERI Quantum Molecular Dynamics). This study showed that time step in the calculation is one of the biggest causes of the discrepancies. For example, the calculation by JQMD comprises 1-fm/c time steps, each of which is composed of transport, scattering and decay phases. Therefore a sequence of scattering, and decay followed by another scattering in 1 fm/c cannot be considered. Moreover, in JQMD particles are labeled by sequential numbers and scattering reactions are simulated by the order. Therefore scattering between low ID numbers, that between high ID numbers and that between the first (low ID) pair is overlooked in JQMD. Above indications obtained in this study must be kept in our mind for future JQMD upgrades.

In addition to the calculation, their algorithms were compared. The author contributed to this study by running calculation using JQMD (JAERI Quantum Molecular Dynamics). The results were compared with those calculated by the other 15 codes from over the world. Algorithm comparison showed that JQMD calculates collision probabilities from protons at first and collisions by neutrons are simulated later, which might be unreasonable. On the other hand, it was clarified that the calculation by JQMD agrees with those by the others. Despite the fact that some codes deviate from the average by a factor of 2, JQMD exhibited stable performance.

The doping of hole carriers via (Ga,Mn) substitution also prohibits electron doping. To overcome these difficulties, Masek et al. theoretically proposed systems based on a I-II-V semiconductor LiZnAs, where isovalent (Zn,Mn) substitution is decoupled from carrier doping with excess/deficient Li concentrations. Here we show successful synthesis of Li(Zn
Mn
)As in bulk materials. We reported that ferromagnetism with a critical temperature of up to 50 K is observed in nominally Li-excess compounds, which have p-type carriers.

catalysts. The positron lifetime spectrum comprises two short and two long lifetime components. The two long lifetime components correspond to ortho-positronium (o-Ps) annihilated in microvoids and large pores, respectively. With increasing NiO content, both the latter lifetime and intensity show continuous decrease. Meanwhile, the para-positronium (p-Ps) intensity, obtained from coincidence Doppler broadening spectra, increases gradually with NiO content. The different variation in o-Ps and p-Ps intensity suggests the ortho-para conversion of Ps in NiO/Al
O
catalysts. The electron-spin-resonance measurements reveal that the ortho-para conversion of Ps is induced by the unpaired electrons of the paramagnetic centers of NiO.

It reaches a maximum for a 100 fs negatively skewed pulse. The electron spectrum shaping contributes to the enhancement of hK. Simulations demonstrate that high contrast lasers are an effective tool for optimizing the X-ray emission, via the enhanced Vacuum Heating mechanism.

H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

Interaction of intense Ti: Sapphire laser with Cu foil targets has been studied by measuring hard X-ray generation. Hard X-ray spectroscopy and K X-ray conversion efficiency (

The acceleration method of laser plasma electron acceleration has very strong electric field, however, the acceleration length is veryshort. Hence, the energy gain of electron beams were confined to be approximately 100 MeV. Recently, this problem was solved by using discharge capillary. The feature of plasma was used that high dense plasma has low refractive index. Distributing plasma inside capillary as low dense plasma is in the center of capillary and high dense plasma is in the external side of capillary can make a laser pulse propaget inside capillary with initial focal spot size. Experiments with capillary were performed in China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP) and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). We obtained the results of 4.4 J laser pulse optical guiding in 4 cm capillary and 0.56 GeV electron production in CAEP in 2006, and 1 J laser pulse optical guiding in 4 cm capillary and electron beams productions.

To understand bacterial ability to dissolve clay minerals, we isolated siderophore-producing bacteria from white clover roots grown in south Osaka, Japan. The ability to produce siderophores was evaluated by CAS plate method. llite, biotite, vermiculite and nontronite were used for testing as clay minerals. Three different bacteria strains were cultivated. Bacteria cells were centrifuged and washed before inoculation tests. Fifty mg dry weight of bacteria were inoculated into 100 mL modified Balland media and 100 mg of each clay mineral added. The suspension was sampled and new media was added. The concentrations of iron, aluminium and silicon were determined by ICP-OES. The presence of organic molecules was determined by SEC-ICP-OES. The peaks of siderophores were determined using the 405 nm absorbance. As a result, siderophore producing bacteria are able to dissolve clay. This suggests that the effect of siderophore on cesium dissolution is an indirectly process.
