The influence of humic acid and its radiological degradation on the sorption of Cs$$^{+}$$ and Eu$$^{3+}$$ by sedimentary rock was investigated to understand the sorption process of metal ions and humic substances. Aldrich humic acid (HA) solution was irradiated with different doses of gamma irradiation using a Co-60 gamma-ray source prior to the contact between the metal ions and the solid sorbent. The HA molecule decomposed to smaller molecules with a lower complexation affinity. Batch sorption experiments were performed to evaluate the effect of gamma-irradiated HA on the sorption of Cs$$^{+}$$ and Eu$$^{3+}$$ ions. The addition of non-irradiated HA weakened the sorption of Eu because of the lower sorption of the neutral or negatively charged Eu-HA complexes compared with free Eu ions. The sorption of monovalent Cs ions was barely affected by the presence of HA and its gamma irradiation. The concentration ratio of HA complexed species and non-complexed species in the solid and liquid phases was evaluated by sequential filtration and chemical equilibrium calculations. The ratios supported the minimal contribution of HA to Cs sorption. However, the concentration ratio for Eu$$^{3+}$$ in the liquid phase was high, indicating that the complexing ability of HA to Eu$$^{3+}$$ was higher than that of HA to Cs$$^{+}$$ ions. Therefore, the sorption of free Eu$$^{3+}$$ would predominate with the gamma irradiation dose applied to the HA solution under a radiation field near the HLW package.

We investigate the anomalous triangle singularity (ATS) and its possible manifestations in various processes. We show that the ATS should have important impact on our understanding of the nature of some newly observed threshold states. Discussions on how to distinguish the ATS phenomena from genuine dynamic pole structures are presented.

3-Nitrotyrosine (3-NT) has been reported as an important biomarker of oxidative stress and potential source of reactive oxygen species (ROSs). In this work, the UV-visible absorption spectra of the transients formed by hydrated electron (e$$_{rm aq}$$$$^{-}$$) reacting with 3-NT and its derivatives were investigated, the spectra showed many characteristics of aromatic nitro anion radical. The reaction rate constants of e$$_{rm aq}$$$$^{-}$$ reacting with 3-NT, N-acetyl-3-nitrotyrosine ethyl ester (NANTE) and nitrotyrosine-containing peptide Gly-nitroTyr-Gly at neutral pH were determined, respectively, which were almost two orders of magnitude higher than that of tyrosine and tyrosine-containing peptides. The pH-dependence of e$$_{rm aq}$$$$^{-}$$ decay rate constants in presence of 3-NT was also studied.

Defects in electron-irradiated (3, 6 MeV) ZnO substrates were investigated using optical detection of magnetic response (ODMR). The shallow donor and the Zn vacancy were detected. In addition, several ODMR centers with S=$$frac{1}{2}$$ were also observed. Among these, LU3 and LU4 shows a behavior as recombination centers. After annealing at 400$$^{circ}$$C, both LU3 and LU4 still remain in ZnO substrates.

Optical detection of magnetic resonance (ODMR) was performed to investigate defects in ZnO irradiated with 3 MeV electrons at room temperature. As a result, the Zn vacancy and some other centers were detected by ODMR. The Zn vacancy and two other centers whish are labeled as LU3 and LU4, were also commonly observed in different types of as-grown ZnO. Therefore, it can be concluded that the both LU3 and LU4 might be related to intrinsic defects, and they act as dominating recombination centers in irradiated and as-grown ZnO.

Present status of experiments on zonal flows is overviewed. Innovative use of modern diagnostics has revealed the existence of zonal flows, their spatio-temporal characteristics, their relationship with turbulence, and their effects on confinement. Particularly a number of observations have been accumulated on the oscillatory branch of the zonal flow, dubbed as geodesic acoustic modes suggesting necessity of theories to give their proper description. Several new methods have elucidated the zonal flow generation processes from the turbulence. Further investigation of relationship between the zonal flows and confinement is strongly encouraged as cross-device activity.

Present status of experiments on zonal flows is overviewed. Innovative use of traditional and modern diagnostics has revealed unambiguously the existense of the zonal flows, their spatio-temporal caracteristics, their relationship with turbulence, and their effects on confinement. Particularly, a number of observations have been accumulated on the oscillatory branch of zonal flows, dubbed geodesic acoustic modes, suggesting necessity of theories to give their proper description. Furthur investigation of relationship between zonal flows and confinement is strongly encouraged as cross-device activity.
