In nominally 7% Zn substituted CeCoIn, an antiferromagnetic (AFM) state coexists with heavy fermion superconductivity. Heterogeneity of the electronic states is investigated in Zn doped CeCoIn by means of nuclear quadrupole and magnetic resonances (NQR and NMR). Site-dependent NQR relaxation rates indicate that the AFM state is locally nucleated around Zn substituents in the matrix of a heavy fermion state, and percolates through the bulk at the AFM transition temperature . At lower temperatures, an anisotropic superconducting (SC) gap below the SC transition temperature , and the SC state permeates through the AFM regions via a SC proximity effect. Applying an external magnetic field induces a spin-flop transition near 5 T, reducing the volume of the AFM regions. Consequently, a short ranged inhomogeneous AFM state survives and coexists with a paramagnetic Fermi liquid state at high fields.

The Pu NMR spectra are consistent with axial symmetry of the shift tensor showing for the first time that Pu NMR can be observed in an anisotropic environment and up to room temperature. The temperature dependence of the Pu shift, combined with a relatively long spin-lattice relaxation time (), indicate that PuB adopts a nonmagnetic state with gaplike behavior consistent with our density functional theory calculations. The temperature dependencies of the NMR Knight shift and imply bulk gaplike behavior confirming that PuB is a good candidate topological insulator.

The realization of the quantized anomalous Hall effect is so far restricted to the Cr-doped (Sb,Bi)Te system at extremely low temperature; however, the microscopic origin of its ferromagnetism is poorly understood. Here we present an element-resolved study for Cr-doped (Sb,Bi)Te using X-ray magnetic circular dichroism to unambiguously show that the long-range magnetic order is mediated by the p-hole carriers of the host lattice, and the interaction between the Sb(Te) p and Cr d states is crucial.

The band was extended considerably and one new band was identified. Comparisons of the band with collective- and shell-model calculations suggest that Ge may be a rare example of a nucleus exhibiting rigid triaxial deformation in the low-lying states.

If the dust is located on the conducting wall, the surrounding particle distribution can significantly differ from the Maxwellian. In this work we study the effect of truncation of electron velocity distribution on release conditions of a spherical dust particle from a plasma-facing wall. The truncation effect enlarges the electric field at the wall compared compared to the Maxwellian. The stronger electric field at the wall makes the released region smaller when the gravitational force is directed from the wall.

The work of the ITPA SOL/divertor group is reviewed. The high-n nature of ELMs has been elucidated and new measurements have determined that they carry 10-20% of the ELM energy to the far SOL with implications for ITER limiters and the upper divertor. Analysis of ELM measurements imply that the ELM continuously loses energy as it travels across the SOL. The prediction of ITER divertor disruption power loads have been reduced as a result of finding that the divertor footprint broadens during the thermal quench and that the plasma can lose up to 80% of its thermal energy before the thermal quench (not for VDEs or ITBs). Disruption mitigation through massive gas puffing has been successful at reducing divertor heat loads but estimates of the effect on the main chamber walls indicate 10s of kG of Be would be melted/mitigation. Long-pulse studies have shown that the fraction of injected gas that can be recovered after a discharge decreases with discharge length. The use of mixed materials gives rise to a number of potential processes.

We report measurements of the hyperfine structure constants of La (N=74) as an initial step to further exploring the neutron deficient rare-earth region where a sudden onset of nuclear deformation is predicted theoretically around N=74. This work is an extension of our earlier off-line experiments on La to on-line laser spectroscopy. The radioactive isotope La (T=59 min) was produced by means of a spallation reaction using a proton beam from TRIUMF cyclotron. The hyperfine spectra were observed by using the method of collinear fast-beam laser spectroscopy. From the obtained hyperfine constants, the nuclear moments of La were derived. In order to arrive at an understanding of the nuclear structure of La, we have carried out particle triaxial-rotor calculations. The results from the calculation reproduce well the experimental values when a triaxial shape is assumed for La.

In heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn, slight Zn substitutions for In atoms induce antiferromagnetism, while slight Ni substitutions for Co atoms suppress superconductivity. The both substituted CeCoIn exhibit non- fermi-liquid behaviors near the phase boundaries which have been detected by magnetization and specific heat measurements. We have performed NMR experiments in these systems to investigate the microscopic effects by substituents. We will discuss about the spin fluctuations near the boundaries by NMR relaxation rates.

Substitutions of In sites by Zn atoms in heavy fermion superconductor CeCoIn is reported to induce an antiferromagnetic order by Yokoyama et al. in Ibaraki University. Near the critical region, non-Fermi-liquid behavior has been observed in magnetization and specific heat. We have performed NMR measurements to reveal the spin fluctuations near the critical region.
