This paper presents the in-situ measurement data and the results of simulation analyses in order to develop technologies for monitoring rock behaviors using tiltmeters placed near ground surface. From the data, it is shown that the tiltmeters are able to capture the rock behaviors due to shaft excavations and concrete placements and are very sensitive to capture earthquakes, change in barometrical pressure and tide as well as the movements of heavy-construction-equipments. The applicability of inverse analysis for identifying the rock properties using tilting displacement data associated with construction activity is demonstrated by elastic analyses. In addition, the applicability of tiltmeters for monitoring high-permeable zones is also demonstrated by Hydro-Mechanical coupling analysis, because the groundwater flow toward the shaft along high-permeable zone cause an increase in the rate of tilting displacement and change in displacement mode.

When we decontaminate and dispose centrifuges of the Ningyo-toge environmental engineering center, by applying the clearance level we utilize resources effectively. As a result we aim at minimizing expenses of abolishing centrifuges. We report on plans of the clearance level of centrifuges and on the measurement.

The poster reports the results of hydrogeological studies on the Surface-based Investigation (Phase I) at the Mizunami Underground Laboratory Project. The hydrogeological studies have been carried out in order to understand (1) groundwater flow characteristics, (2) dilution of nuclides, (3) volume of inflow into underground tunnels, and (4) impact induced by construction of underground tunnels on water table and hydraulic pressure. The poster compiles the main results to be understood these items, and technical findings and know-how which can serve as foundation to disposal business.

The surface-based investigations in Mizunami and Horonobe Underground Research Laboratories are completed and the results are compiled in a series of reports in March, 2007. The Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory in Mizunami city of Gifu Prefecture targets fractured crystalline rock, whereas the Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory targets the porous Tertiary sedimentary rocks. The report aims to provide the technical basis for the surface-based investigation during preliminary investigations and the detailed investigations by implementing body as well as safety regulations. The presenation summarizes the outline of the series of reports on the surafce-based investigations.

Technical information including available technologies and residual radioactive contamination is required to establish safety standards for regulatory review for the future decommissioning of nuclear fuel facilities. We have acquired the technical information on the past and on-going decommissioning projects of domestic and foreign nuclear fuel facilities. This report presents the information and the study on the safety issues concerning the decommissioning of fuel reprocessing facilities.
