was chosen as model protozoa because it is the most well known unicellular protozoa. Most of the cells did not survive at metal concentrations of 0.1 mM or higher. The sorption behaviors of metal species varied with element and with dead or alive cells. Heavy elements (Sr, Eu, Pb, and U) were hardly detected on the cells survived for 24 h at neutral pH, while on the cells pre-dried on carbon foils Pb and U were clearly detected. These results suggest that living cells of
have functions to prevent sorption of metal species on the cells.
