For heavy mass, the lattice fluctuation can be regarded to be adiabatic and the system dimerizes at low temperature. On the other hand, for light mass, the lattice takes a uniform configuration on the thermal average and magnetic properties coincide with those of the uniform lattice system. These phenomena can be understood from the difference of the time scale of the motion between the spin and the lattice.

The charge disproportionation (2Fe Fe + Fe), not observed in SrFeO, occurs in the oxides being cut the network of FeO octahedra, for example, by introduction of Fe by substitution La for Sr and change in the dimension by insertion of SrO layer. When Co is substituted 40% of Fe in SrFeO, the magnetic order changes to ferromagnetic from antiferromagnetic and charge disproportionation is suppressed.

At the Pr- absorption edge, we observed resonant features in = odd reflections, which are forbidden in the structure above . Because these reflections contain the difference of anomalous scattering factor between two Pr atoms in the unit cell, and the ordered state is attributed to the ordering of two different electronic states of Pr.

The lattice distortion is introduced as inputs of the calculation. We reproduce well the experimental spectra as a function of photon energy around the main--K--edge (MKE). The spectral structure around the MKE is independent of the magnetic order (MO) and the orbital order (OO) but strongly dependent on the magnitude of the Jahn--Teller distortion (JTD).

Using a microscopic model that the 4f states of Dy are atomic while the 5d states form an energy band with a reasonable density of states, we obtain sufficient RXS intensities on the AFQ superlattice spot assuming the quadrupole order in the 4f states but without any lattice distortion, in good agreement with the recent experiment. The present result demonstrates the mechanism that the intensity is brought about by the modulation of 5d states through the anisotropic term of the 5d-4f Coulomb interaction.

The electrical resistivity and the magnetic susceptibility were measured between 4.2 and 300 K. These compounds show metallic conductivity and obey the Curie-Weiss law with temperature independent term. The metallic conductivity of PbIrO is suppressed by the Ca substitution for Pb site.

The temperature dependence of Knight shift has been determined. Based on the temperature dependence of static susceptibility, K- chi ploy is obtained. The slope of the plot corresponds to the hyperfine coupling constant. The hyperfine coupling constant is changed at TN and the second transition 40K. This fact indicates that the electronic sturcture is changed drastically at the transitions.
