High pressure study on uranium heavy fermion compounds with antiferromagnetic ground state

We have studied the high pressure effect on the antiferromagnetic ground states of uranium heavy fermion compounds. In this paper we show our high pressure studies on UZn by the electrical resistivity measurements. In UZn, the Nel temperature in UZn decreases slightly from 9.66 K at 1 bar to 9.33 K at 2.5 GPa, becomes almost pressure-independent up to 4.7 GPa, and starts to increase at the higher pressure region. We discuss the pressure dependences of the coefficient of term in the electrical resistivity , an antiferromagnetic gap and a characteristic temperature . It is found that the effect of pressure on the electronic states in UZn is weak compared with the other heavy fermion compounds.

Two-step quantum spin flop transition in spin ladders

The magnetization process of the spin ladder systems with ferromagnetic rung exchange interaction is theoretically investigated using the numerical exact diagonalization and the finite-size scaling technique. It is found that with some easy-axis anisotropy the system would exhibit a new two-step spin flop transition induced by an external magnetic field.

La-NMR study on a La dilute system of PrPb

The first La-NMR measurement has been carried out on a La dilute system of PrPb. We have succeeded to detect La-NMR signal on a powder sample of PrLaPb and extracted the temperature dependence of the Knight shift in a temperature range between 1.5 and 220 K. has been found to maintain a linear relation with the bulk-susceptibility in wide temperature range, except for a small deviation in the temperature region below 6 K. The slopes of the vs plots yield for the hyperfine coupling constants the value 375 Oe/. From the NMR results, we discuss the effect of the La substitutions on microscopic magnetic properties of PrPb.
