The guideline for impulsive load as explosion and impact is not specified yet in architectural field. This presentation corresponds to the contents of the book titled "Introduction to Shock-Resistant Design of Buildings" which made towards the impact design guideline. Some design criteria examples are presented to illustrate the applicability of the tentative guideline for impulsive loads. Two buildings - a steel frame and a reinforced concrete frame building structures are selected. The idea has been shown in this presentation are those that can be applied to nuclear facilities.

A novel design for a contact grating device with an incorporated Fabry-Perot resonator is proposed for high-power terahertz light (THz) generation. We deposited a multilayer consisting of Ta
O
and AlO
on a magnesium-doped stoichiometric LiNbO substrate and fabricated grating grooves on the outermost layer. The multilayer was designed such that conditions for a Fabry-Perot resonator were satisfied for light diffracted by the grating. Consequently, the diffraction efficiency was enhanced by the resonator. The diffraction efficiency of the fabricated device was 71%. THz light generation was also demonstrated with the contact grating device.

With the recent progress of developments of laser devices, pulses with the intensity higher than 100 MeV/cm
have been generated in the THz region. As an application of the THz pulses, there is rotational excitation of a diatomic molecule by a frequency comb. This article mentions the excitation process briefly. First, interaction between the molecule and the laser field is introduced. The frequency comb is given in a form of a periodic delta function. Then we explain that the molecule can be excited into a high rotational state by tuning spectral frequencies of the comb to rotational transition frequency of the molecule. Finally, the computational result for the LiCl molecule is given in order to demonstrate the rotational excitation process induced by the frequency comb.
