1.5.2 Corrosion-induced degradation, (2) Stress corrosion cracking

Tsukada, Takashi

Genshiryoku Hozen Handobukku, p.52 - 56, 2020/02

Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) is a phenomenon in which cracks initiate and develop when tensile stress acts on alloy materials placed in corrosive environments. SCC has been the cause of material damage in components of light water reactor plants and various countermeasures technologies were developed. In this section, the outline of SCC is described for the material and reactor type.

1.5.3 Neutron dadiation-induced degradation, (2) Irradiation Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking (IASCC)

Tsukada, Takashi

Genshiryoku Hozen Handobukku, p.59 - 61, 2020/02

Irradiated Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking (IASCC) is a stress corrosion cracking phenomenon that occurs mainly due to the influence of neutron irradiation accumulating in metal materials. In both furnace types of BWR and PWR, it becomes a factor of degradation of structural materials in the core where neutron fluence increases due to aging of reactors. This section outlines the experience and mechanism of the IASCC.
