Hydrogen bubble formation in H-implanted ZnO studied using a slow positron beam

20-80 keV hydrogen ions were implanted into ZnO single crystals up to a total dose of 4.4$$times$$10$$^{15}$$ cm$$^{-2}$$. Positron annihilation measurements using a slow positron beam revealed introduction of vacancies after implantation, which are filled with hydrogen impurities. After annealing, these hydrogen filled vacancies grow into large hydrogen bubbles. At annealing temperature of 500-700$$^{circ}$$C, these hydrogen impurities are released from the bubbles, and remain open microvoids. These microvoids are finally annealed out at about 1100$$^{circ}$$C. The effects of hydrogen implantation on the light luminescence in ZnO will also be discussed.

Measurements of deuteron-induced activation cross sections for IFMIF(International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility) accelerator structural materials(aluminum,copper,tungsten) were performed by using the AVF cyclotron in TIARA. We obtained the activation cross sections for the reactions $$^{27}$$Al(d,x)$$^{27}$$Mg, $$^{24}$$Na, $$^{nat}$$Cu(d,x)$$^{62,63}$$Zn, $$^{61,64}$$Cu, and $$^{nat}$$W(d,x)$$^{187}$$W, $$^{181-184,186}$$Re in 22-40 MeV rigion. The present results were compared with other experimental ones and the data in the ACSELAM library.

Extra radiation hardening and microstructural evolution in F82H by high-dose dual ion irradiation

The objectives of this study are to evaluate radiation hardening on ion-irradiated F82H up to 100 dpa and to examine the extra component of radiation hardening due to implanted helium atoms (up to $$sim$$3000 appmHe) in F82H under ratio of 0, 10, 100 appmHe/dpa.The ion-beam irradiation experiment was carried out at the TIARA facility of JAERI. Specimens were irradiated at 633 K by 10.5 MeV Fe ions with/without 1.05 MeV He ions. Micro-indentation tests were performed at loads to penetrate about 0.40 mm in the irradiated specimens using an UMIS-2000. The results are summarized as follows:1) As a result of the single irradiated F82H, the micro-hardness tended to increase about 30 dpa. 2) The extra radiation hardening was obviously caused by co-implanted helium atoms more than 1000 appm in F82H irradiated at 633 K. 3) In the dual-beam (100 appmHe/dpa) irradiated microstructure, nano-voids and fine defects were observed. It is suggested that the formation of nano-voids causes the extra radiation hardening by helium co-implantation.

Micro-PIXE technique for the study of asian dust sources

As the source of Asian dust particles, the sands at four different desert areas in China were to be the target of bulk and single analyses by means of PIXE and micro-PIXE analyses, respectively. The physical properties of desert sands like morphology, color, and size were basically determined. Also the chemical characteristics of bulk sands of each desert were specified as the relative elemental mass. The elemental maps and spectra for individual sands allow us to understand the nature of individual sands. Consequently, the physicochemical properties of desert sands obtained from this study can be helpful to understand what kinds of man-made pollutants and sea-salts are incorporated into natural Asian dust particles.
