Corrosion evaluation of steel surfaces using image processing

Igarashi, Takahiro

AI, Shimyureshon O Mochiita Rekka, Hakai Hyoka To Juyo Yosoku, p.323 - 329, 2025/05

Metal materials are used in various fields of daily life, especially in infrastructure like bridges, buried pipes, and concrete reinforcing bars. These materials are prone to corrosion, which can cause thinning, hydrogen generation, and embrittlement, leading to a loss of structural integrity and potentially serious accidents. Many studies have been conducted to address this issue. Recently, advances in computer performance have led to the development of corrosion diagnosis methods. One promising approach uses models that predict rust thickness and corrosion product composition by analyzing image data from surfaces, offering both ease of measurement and accuracy. This book introduces these methods, including color analysis, hyperspectral analysis, AI analysis, and feature point extraction.

Visual analysis of air dose rate maps

Takahashi, Shigeo*; Sakurai, Daisuke*; Nagao, Fumiya; Kurikami, Hiroshi; Sanada, Yukihisa

Shimyureshon, 42(2), p.68 - 75, 2023/06

This paper introduces a case in which scientific knowledge on understanding the deposition process of radionuclides and evaluating the dose rate reduction due to decontamination work was obtained through visual analysis based on data on the spatio-temporal distribution of air dose rates accumulated through radiation monitoring after the accident. We will discuss the prospects for future efforts to effectively obtain important knowledge that will assist in the planning of policies for reconstruction from the nuclear power plant accident in the future.

Remote visualization system based on particle based volume rendering

Kawamura, Takuma; Idomura, Yasuhiro; Miyamura, Hiroko; Takemiya, Hiroshi

Nihon Shimyureshon Gakkai Rombunshi, 6(2), p.15 - 26, 2014/09

In this paper, we propose a novel remote visualization system based on particle-based volume rendering (PBVR). The system consists of a Server, which generates particles (rendering primitives), and a Client, which process volume rendering, and particles are transferred from Server to Client. The size of particle data is determined by the resolution of rendering images, and is significantly smaller than the original volume data. The smallness of the particle data is useful also for achieving a high frame rate. In the system, Server is highly parallelized on multiple GPGPUs using a hybrid MPI-CUDA programing model. The particle generation is accelerated by two orders of magnitudes compared with CPU, and structured and unstructured volume data with a hundred million cells are processed within a second. The total performance of remote visualization is compared against a commodity visualization tool, and an order of magnitude faster processing speed is achieved.

Visualization for tensor volume data

Kawamura, Takuma; Miyamura, Hiroko

Shimyureshon Jiten, P. 223, 2012/02

Simulation technology is gaining its importance. In order to get an overview of the current state of the simulation, Simulation Dictionary is published by Japan society for simulation technology, which systematically describes its basics and applications. In this dictionary, I wrote an item "visualization for tensor volume dataset". I surveyed the related techniques and summarized tensor glyph, hyper stream line, and degenerating point detection in tensor field.

Use of thermodynamic simulation for preliminary study on electrolyte recycle process by the phosphate conversion technique

Amamoto, Ippei; Kofuji, Hirohide; Myochin, Munetaka; Terai, Takayuki*

Some specific FPs are apt to remain in the medium (electrolyte) used in pyroprocessing even after recovery of uranium and transuranic elements. It is desirable to have the spent electrolyte purified for recycling which in turn, could lead to the reduction of HLW. This study is carried out to evaluate the feasibility of the electrolyte recycle process by the phosphates conversion technique. The evaluation was undertaken mainly by thermodynamic simulation which was especially highlighted the conversion effect at the Spent Electrolyte Generation Step. The obtained computational value and a conceptual idea for recovery of precipitates by this simulation were then reflected to establish the preliminary conceptual flow diagram which would facilitate the next discussion and experiment for the realization of this process.

A real space simulator for vibration table targeted to a nuclear power station has been proposed, which generates over tera-byte amount of calculated result. In order to analyze a huge size data, a data analyzer and data analyzing monitor system is suggested in this paper. A result of finite element analysis is examined by the system taking into account relation among neighboring elements' results. It is operated by multi-monitoring to view analyzing process. The system is implemented on a grid computing environment, AEGIS (atomic energy grid infrastructure) with coupling a large data visualization system.

Estimation of change in $$k_mathit{eff}$$ due to perturbed fission-source distribution

Nagaya, Yasunobu; Mori, Takamasa; Brown, F. B.*

Monte Karuro Keisanho Kodoka No Genjo; Dai-3-Kai Monte Karuro Shimyureshon Kenkyukai Hobunshu, p.105 - 115, 2004/12

The Monte Carlo perturbation method based on the differential operator sampling method has been widely used to obtain a small change in neutronic parameters or sensitivity. The method is very effective for fixed-source problems but a difficulty arises for eigenvalue problems because the fission source distribution is perturbed. Most Monte Carlo codes assume that the source distribution is unchanged after a perturbation is introduced. However, this assumption can lead to a significant error in the perturbation estimate. Recently, a method to estimate the perturbed fission source effect has been proposed. In this method, the additional weights for the differential coefficient of the fission source at fission sites are normalized in each cycle, and the effect is estimated by propagating the normalized additional weight between cycles. The method and benchmark results have been reviewed. It has been found that this method is very effective in perturbation calculations for the effective multiplication factor.
