no journal, ,

Six-axis multi-anvil press ATSUHIME is the press installed at high-pressure neutron beamline PLANET in J-PARC. It was constructed for neutron diffraction experiments. At present, PLANET is only the beamline wherein high-pressure and high-temperature experiments are routinely conducted. Thus, the six-axis press has been used in a wide range of scientific fields, such as physics, geoscience, and physical chemistry. In this talk, I introduce the design and performance of the press as well as recent neutron studies conducted using ATSUHIME.

Recent developments of neutron diffraction at mantle PT conditions at PLANET

Sano, Asami

no journal, ,

Since hydrogen has a large scattering power for neutron, neutron diffraction can be an important tool in the investigation of hydrogen in minerals. The high-pressure neutron diffractometer PLANET in the MLF at J-PARC is equipped with a 6-axis type multi-anvil press to conduct high-temperature neutron diffraction experiments at high pressure. With the application of the multi-anvil assembly (MA) 6-6, experiments have been routinely performed. One of the advantages of using the MA6-6 is that the anvil gap is located at 2$$theta$$ = 90$$^{circ}$$, where the detector is located. However, the available pressure is currently limited below 12 GPa using MA6-6 with TEL size of 7 mm. It is necessary to expand the conditions to cover the mantle transition zone that is considered as an important reservoir of water. In this talk, I will present recent developments with applications of MA6-8 to expand the PT conditions in PLANET.
