Efforts from water chemistry to decommission the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, 2; Evaluation of corrosion environments under irradiation by water radiolysis calculations

Sato, Tomonori

no journal, ,

Water radiolysis is one of important phenomena in the accident of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. The construction of water radiolysis database were performed in the construction of database for the corrosion under irradiation. The calculated results of H$$_{2}$$O$$_{2}$$ and H$$_{2}$$ concentrations using the radiolysis database are reported.

The Effects of hydrogen addition on the corrosive conditions of PWR primary coolant under irradiation, 4; Direct and indirect effects of pH on ECP of stainless steel in the primary cooling water

Uchida, Shunsuke; Hata, Kuniki; Hanawa, Satoshi; Chimi, Yasuhiro

no journal, ,

The direct effects of hydrogen concentrations on the ECP were discussed in the previous presentation (the series #2). The parameters to determine ECP, e.g., pH and dose rate as well as hydrogen concentration, were different between in PWRs and BWRs. In the presentation, the direct and indirect effects of pH on ECP due to water radiolysis, surface properties and metallic ion solubilities are discussed. It was concluded that the corrosive conditions in the wide pH range which covered both PWR primary cooling water and BWR cooling water could be evaluated with a set of analysis codes for water radiolysis and ECP with applying the pH-dependent reaction constants.

Corrosion evaluation based on the radiolysis calculations

Sato, Tomonori

no journal, ,

Examples of evaluation of corrosion phenomena under irradiation condition based on radiolysis analysis is introduced. The contents of this presentation are an example of analysis of hydrogen peroxide concentration by radiolysis calculations, evaluation of corrosion of carbon steel in the presence of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. And then, evaluations of corrosion tests under gamma irradiation conditions using radiolysis calculations are introduced. One is measurement of corrosion of carbon steel under gamma irradiation, and the other is measurement of corrosion potential of stainless steel under gamma irradiation.

Oral presentation

The Effects of hydrogen addition on the corrosive conditions of PWR primary coolant under irradiation, 5; Effects of boric acid and lithium hydroxide on radiolysis and ECP

Uchida, Shunsuke; Hata, Kuniki; Hanawa, Satoshi; Chimi, Yasuhiro

no journal, ,

In the previous presentations (the series No.1-4), it was confirmed that the water radiolysis and ECP models developed for BWR primary coolant conditions could be successfully applied for PWR primary coolant conditions. The coupled application of both models was applied to propose the optimal hydrogen concentration control from the viewpoint of ECP suppression. In the presentation, applicability of the models to evaluation of the boron and lithium simultaneous control was discussed and it was concluded that the optimal pH control for plant dose rate suppression and the optimal hydrogen concentration control for structural material integrity could be established at the same time.
