The heavy fermion superconductivity below K for is suppressed by Ni substitutions, and reaches zero for . The In NQR spectra for and 0.25 can be explained by simulating the electrical field gradient that is calculated for a virtual supercell with density functional theory. The spin-lattice relaxation rate indicates that Ni substitution weakens antiferromagnetic correlations that are not localized near the substituent but instead are uniform in space. The temperature () dependence of for shows a maximum around K and decreases toward almost zero when temperature is further reduced as if a gap might be opening in the magnetic excitation spectrum; however, the magnetic specific heat and the static magnetic susceptibility evolve smoothly through with a dependence. The peculiar T dependence of and non-Fermi-liquid specific heat and susceptibility can be interpreted in a unified way by assuming nested antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in a quasi-two-dimensional electronic system.

In nominally 7% Zn substituted CeCoIn, an antiferromagnetic (AFM) state coexists with heavy fermion superconductivity. Heterogeneity of the electronic states is investigated in Zn doped CeCoIn by means of nuclear quadrupole and magnetic resonances (NQR and NMR). Site-dependent NQR relaxation rates indicate that the AFM state is locally nucleated around Zn substituents in the matrix of a heavy fermion state, and percolates through the bulk at the AFM transition temperature . At lower temperatures, an anisotropic superconducting (SC) gap below the SC transition temperature , and the SC state permeates through the AFM regions via a SC proximity effect. Applying an external magnetic field induces a spin-flop transition near 5 T, reducing the volume of the AFM regions. Consequently, a short ranged inhomogeneous AFM state survives and coexists with a paramagnetic Fermi liquid state at high fields.

We report our experimental discovery of the transition temperature reaching 20 K in a Yb-based compound at ambient pressure. The Mn substitution at the Al site in an intermediate valence state of -YbAlB not only induces antiferromagnetic transition at a record high temperature of 20 K but also transforms the heavy-fermion liquid state in -YbAlB into a highly resistive metallic state proximate to a Kondo insulator.

Times Cited Count:0 Percentile:0.00(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)The microscopic origin of a magnetic phase diagram under pressure in a heavy fermion antiferromagnet CeRhSi was investigated using the Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. We investigated the temperature and pressure dependencies of -independent local fluctuations caused by the single-site Kondo effect. A universal scaling behavior observed on the energy scale of the local fluctuations in an entire pressure region demonstrates that a characteristic energy scale of Kondo interactions monotonically increases by applying pressure without a critical anomaly around the quantum critical pressure of antiferromagnetism. Our NMR result agrees with the Doniach picture of the heavy-fermion phase diagram, where the progressive delocalization of the -electrons occurs across , accompanied by the development of antiferromagnetic correlations among the -electrons.

The magnetic susceptibility can be reproduced by the singlet ground state with the main component of and the first excited doublet dominated by at ,K. The magnetization curve can be explained from the effective local hamiltonian for pseudo spin =1 with () equivalent to the quadrupole operator . The specific heat can be described with the Kondo model normalized to give the entropy R, corresponding to the pseudo triplet state. The derived Kondo temperature ,K comparable to the level splitting ,K indicates the contribution of the excited doublet to the possible multi-channel Kondo effect.

In order to explore the origin of this anomaly, we have measured In NMR spectra in pulsed magnetic fields up to 56 T using high-quality single crystals. To within experimental resolution, we do not detect any change in the NMR spectra that could suggest a modification in either the character of the hyperfine field or the electric field gradient at In sites through . This strongly suggests that the 45 T anomaly cannot be simply ascribed to a field-induced change in the magnetic structure of the AFM state.

Using the Ginzburg-Landau model, the influence of proximity-induced superconductivity in Ru on the topology of the 3-K phase is analysed. Because the s-wave order parameter in Ru favors a 3-K state of trivial topology, the onset temperature of the phase with a nontrivial topology is essentially reduced to the bulk transition temperature.

The -dependence of the internal field at the Ga site has been determined and is found to coincide with that of the spontaneous magnetization. The electric field gradient (EFG) and transferred hyperfine coupling constant at the Ga site are found to be modified in the ferromagnetically ordered state, presumably due to a modification of the electronic state caused by the ferromagnetic ordering. The spin-lattice relaxation rate is enhanced due to ferromagnetic fluctuations around . The 5 magnetic moments are considered to be nearly localized in UGa, in spite of good metallic conduction.

We report a resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) study of charge excitations in the electron-doped high- superconductor NdCeCuO. The intraband and interband excitations across the Fermi energy are separated for the first time by tuning the experimental conditions properly to measure charge excitations at low energy. A dispersion relation with -dependent width emerges clearly in the intraband excitation, while the intensity of the interband excitation is concentrated around 2 eV near the zone center. The experimental results are consistent with theoretical calculation of the RIXS spectra based on the Hubbard model.

Mott gap excitations in the optimally doped high- superconductor YBaCuO ( = 93 K) have been studied by the resonant inelastic X-ray scattering method. Anisotropic spectra in the -plane are observed in a twin-free crystal. The excitation from the one-dimensional CuO chain is enhanced at 2 eV near the zone boundary of the direction, while the excitation from the CuO plane is broad at 1.5-4 eV and almost independent of the momentum transfer. Theoretical calculation based on the one-dimensional and two-dimensional Hubbard model reproduces the observed spectra when different values of the on-site Coulomb energy are assumed. The Mott gap of the CuO chain site is found to be much smaller than that of the CuO plane site.

We report on the Magnetism, magnetic penetration depth and the Knight shift in polycrystalline sample of CePtSi by means of muon spin rotation and relaxation method. The appearance of the internal field under the zero magnetic field in whole volume of the specimen, was observed, which indicating clear evidence of antiferromagnetism. The muon Knight shift was measured down to 20mK at 17kOe. Three different frequencies are seen in the muon spin rotation spectra, which depend on the temperature. The symmetry of the superconducting Cooper pair will be discussed.

We have investigated the physical properties of Heavy Fermion superconductors by the ac calorimetry under high pressure using a thermocouple. The method is powerful tool since the high sensitive measurement of the heat capacity is possible and the precise pressure dependence of transition temperatures such as the superconducting transition can be determined. In this conference, I would like to report our investigations on the heavy fermion superconductors CePtSi, CeNiGe and UIr. We have made pressure phase diagram of these compounds and discuss the relation between the magnetism and superconductivity.
