The K-Ar ages from matrix shale of the mlange range from 85 to 48 Ma and decrease with decreasing amount of detrital mica. In contrast, the K-Ar ages of an ultracataclasite within the fault core are significantly younger, ranging from 29 to 23 Ma, and are unrelated to grain size. This indicates that
Ar diffused completely from the ultracataclasite between 29 and 23 Ma. The diffusion of
Ar in the ultracataclasite was probably caused by frictional heating or high-temperature fluid migration that occurred when the fault was reactivated. The results indicate that seismogenic faults that separate tectonic m
lange from coherent strata in accretionary complex may slip, not only during accretion, but also long after accretion.

The He, Ar and the Penning gas pressureeffects on the preparation yieldsof the fullerenes were investigated by means of the arc discharge method using graphite(PGX) anode buried in a tungsten rod and tungsten cathode for collector radii of 50mm. The maximum yield showed about 13-14 % at 67KPa in He gas. The yields in the mixtures of He and Ne gases (the Penning effect) were similar to those obtained in He gas. Weight ratios of C to (C
+C
) were about 20% in Ar gas, while those in He and Penning gas were about 60%. Ultra sonic vibration was effective to separate C
from soot.

The results are in agreement with highly resolved F-like to He-like K-shell emission spectra recorded recently during ultrashort laser experiments with argon cluster targets in Japan.
