Estimation of muon-induced SEU rates for 65-nm bulk and UTBB-SOI SRAMs

Manabe, Seiya*; Watanabe, Yukinobu*; Liao, W.*; Hashimoto, Masanori*; Abe, Shinichiro

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 66(7), p.1398 - 1403, 2019/07

Cosmic ray-induced soft errors have been recognized as a major threat for electronics used at ground level. Recently, cosmic-ray muon-induced soft errors have received much attention due to the reduction of soft error immunity on SRAMs. In the previous studies, muon-induced soft error rates (SERs) for various technology devices were predicted with only the positive muon irradiation tests and simulation. In this paper, the muon-induced SEU rates for the 65-nm bulk and UTBB-SOI SRAMs are estimated by using the experimental data of both negative and positive muons. The experimental results showed that the negative muon SEU cross sections for the bulk SRAM are significantly larger than those for the UTBB-SOI. Estimation of muon-induced SEU rates at ground level was performed using PHITS with the experimental results. The muon-induced SER on the first floor of the building was estimated to be at most 10% of the neutron-induced SER on the same floor.

Micro-PIXE technique for the study of asian dust sources

Kasahara, Mikio*; Ma, C.-J.*; Okumura, Motonori*; Kojima, Takuji; Hakoda, Teruyuki; Taguchi, Mitsumasa; Sakai, Takuro; Ohara, Yoshihiro

JAERI-Review 2004-025, TIARA Annual Report 2003, p.256 - 258, 2004/11

As the source of Asian dust particles, the sands at four different desert areas in China were to be the target of bulk and single analyses by means of PIXE and micro-PIXE analyses, respectively. The physical properties of desert sands like morphology, color, and size were basically determined. Also the chemical characteristics of bulk sands of each desert were specified as the relative elemental mass. The elemental maps and spectra for individual sands allow us to understand the nature of individual sands. Consequently, the physicochemical properties of desert sands obtained from this study can be helpful to understand what kinds of man-made pollutants and sea-salts are incorporated into natural Asian dust particles.

Role of UV light illumination and DMF soaking in production of PET ion track membranes

Zhu, Z.; Maekawa, Yasunari; Koshikawa, Hiroshi; Suzuki, Yasuyuki; Yonezawa, Noriyuki*; Yoshida, Masaru

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research B, 217(3), p.449 - 456, 2004/05

The pretreatment effects using UV light illumination and DMF soaking on bulk and track etching rates of PET films were investigated. The wavelength of illuminated UV light plays an important role in sensitizing track etching. Illumination with the light at wavelengths longer than 320nm showed strong enhancement in the track etching rates without influence on the bulk etching rates, whereas light with the wavelengths lower than 320nm causes large enhancement in both track and bulk etching rates even in the interior of the material. The track etching rate is found to be not constant along ion tracks, which is attributed to the inhomogeneous distribution of reactive chemical species induced during post-UV light illumination. Furthermore, the DMF soaking of PET after UV light illumination can enhance the etching sensitivity of the track by more than 100 times. The phenomenon is attributed to the high diffusion of organic solution along tracks after UV light illumination.

A Method of estimation bulk density of high-grade uranium ore

Iida, Yoshimasa

Donen Giho, (104), p.135 - 140, 1997/12

Uranium ore in the Athabasca region, Canada, is highly variable in density. This is due to large variations in the grade of high-density uranium and associated metalliferous minerals, and also to changes in porosity. As it is not practical to take accurate measurements of dry bulk density values of a large number of samples. As a result of investigation on actual ore samples, it has been found practical to estimate the dry bulk density of ore from measured wet bulk density and grain density calculated from chemical data.
