Development and evaluation of a real-time 3D positioning embedded system combining wireless UWB and camera image analysis (Contract research); FY2022 Nuclear Energy Science & Technology and Human Resource Development Project

Collaborative Laboratories for Advanced Decommissioning Science; Tokai National Higher Education and Research System*

JAEA-Review 2024-027, 77 Pages, 2024/11

JAEA-Review-2024-027.pdf:6.0MB

The Collaborative Laboratories for Advanced Decommissioning Science (CLADS), Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), had been conducting the Nuclear Energy Science Technology and Human Resource Development Project (hereafter referred to "the Project") in FY2022. The Project aims to contribute to solving problems in the nuclear energy field represented by the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (TEPCO). For this purpose, intelligence was collected from all over the world, and basic research and human resource development were promoted by closely integrating/collaborating knowledge and experiences in various fields beyond the barrier of conventional organizations and research fields. The sponsor of the Project was moved from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to JAEA since the newly adopted proposals in FY2018. On this occasion, JAEA constructed a new research system where JAEA-academia collaboration is reinforced and medium-to-long term research/development and human resource development contributing to the decommissioning are stably and consecutively implemented. Among the adopted proposals in FY2022, this report summarizes the research results of the "Development and evaluation of a real-time 3D positioning embedded system combining wireless UWB and camera image analysis" conducted in FY2022. The present study aims to realize an embedded system that combines two of the latest popular technologies, "wireless UWB (Ultra Width Band)" and "multi-camera object recognition," with the goal of simple realtime 3D positioning with less than 10 cm accuracy by a human or robot for measuring air doses in nuclear reactor buildings.

Building plant quake-proof information inference system based on hybrid data mining approach

Shu, Y.; Nakajima, Norihiro

Proceedings of 1st International Workshop on Risk Management System with Intelligent Data Analysis (RMDA 2005) in Conjunction with 19th Annual Conference of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI 2005), p.35 - 44, 2005/06

This paper presents an intelligent information inference system based on a hybrid data mining approach, which integrates human cognitive model in a data mining loop. In the proposed system, the mining control agent emulated human analysts interacts directly with the data miner, analyzing and verifying the output of the data miner and controlling the data mining process. In additional, the neural network method, which is adopted as a core component of the proposed hybrid data mining method, is evolved by adding the retraining facility and explaining function for handling complicated quake-proof data of nuclear power plant. To demonstrate how the method can be used as a powerful tool for extracting information relevant to plant safety and reliability, plant quake-proof testing data have been applied to the inference system.

Experimental method for assessment of team situation awareness

Shu, Y.; Goh, T.*; Furuta, Kazuo*

Proceedings of Cognitive System Engineering in Process Control (CSEPC 2004), p.140 - 147, 2004/11

Team Situation Awareness (TSA) is one of the intermediate steps in the team decision-making process, widely used to assess performance of human-artifact interaction in many operational domains, such as power plant, aviation, emergency center and so on. However, there is still no clearly understandable, generally accepted, objective ways to measure TSA. Following our previous work on TSA that TSA is modeled as an entity reducible to individual SAs and mutual beliefs, in this study, the authors developed a combination of measures to capture TSA and study various interventions that contribute to formation of TSA. TSA was measured both as a state and a process entity using queries and protocol analysis. Results showed that proposed method is practically useful for TSA measurement.

Selected materials of the international workshop on radiation risk and its origin at molecular and cellular level; February 6-7, 2003

Pinak, M.

JAERI-Conf 2003-011, 113 Pages, 2003/09

JAERI-Conf-2003-011.pdf:10.08MB

The workshop "International Workshop on Radiation Risk and its Origin at Molecular and Cellular Level" was held at The Tokai Research Establishment, Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, on the 6th and 7th of February 2003. The Laboratory of Radiation Risk Analysis of JAERI organized it. This international workshop attracted scientists from several different scientific areas, including radiation physics, radiation biology, molecular biology, crystallography of biomolecules, modeling and bio-informatics. Several foreign and domestic keynote speakers addresses the very fundamental areas of radiation risk and tried to establish a link between the fundamental studies at the molecular and cellular level and radiation damages at the organism. The symposium consisted of 13 oral lectures, 10 poster presentations and panel discussion. The 108 participants attended the workshop. This publication comprises of proceedings of oral and poster presentations where available. For the rest of contributions the abstracts or/and selections of presentation materials are shown instead.
