Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has manufactured 100 NL/h-H
-scale hydrogen test apparatus. In advance to conduct the continuous operation, we investigated performance of the components in each section of the IS process. In this paper, the results of test of Bunsen and HI concentration sections was shown. In Bunsen reaction, section, we confirmed that outlet gas flow rate included no SO
gas, indicating that all the feed SO
gas was absorbed to the solution in the Bunsen reactor for the Bunsen reaction. On the basis of these results, we evaluated that Bunsen reactor was workable. In HI concentration section, HI concentration was conducted by EED stack. As a result, it can concentrate HI in HIx solution as theoretically predicted on the basis of the previous paper. Based on the results added to that shown in Series II, we have conducted a trial continuous operation and succeeded it for 8 hours.

Times Cited Count:2 Percentile:17.16(Environmental Sciences)Deposit energy distribution in microscopic site in a living cell is important information for understanding of biological effects of energetic heavy ion beams. In this work, a wall-less tissue equivalent proportional counter has been used for the measurement of lineal energy (y) distributions and dose-mean of y (yD) at radial direction of 30 MeV H at TIARA, for the verification of the microdosimetric function of PHITS. The measured yf(y) summed in radial direction agree with the corresponding data from the microdosimetric calculations using the PHITS code fairly well. The yD of 30 MeV proton beam presents the smallest value at r = 0.0 and gradually increase with radial distance, while the values of heavy ions such as iron showed rapid decrease with radial distance. This experimental result demonstrates that the stochastic deposit energy distribution of high-energy protons in microscopic region is rather constant both in the core and in the penumbra region of the track structure.

Times Cited Count:133 Percentile:96.28(Physics, Fluids & Plasmas)The potential and density fluctuations of Geodesic-Acoustic-Mode (GAM) were investigated through the direct and simultaneous measurement of electrostatic and density fluctuations with a heavy ion beam probe(HIBP). It was found that the amplitude of the fluctuation has a maximum inside of the plasma boundary and that it has an almost constant frequency. It was also found that the mode propagates in the radial direction and that the GAM affects the background turbulence. The influence to the background turbulence was found to be in consistent with a theoretical prediction.

An innovative chemical separation process (ARTIST: Amide-based Radio-resources Treatment with Interim Storage of Transuranics) was proposed for the treatment of spent nuclear fuel. The main concept of ARTIST process is to recover and stock all actinides (An) and to dispose the fission products (FP). One of the main purposes of this process is selective isolation of uranium. Since the brached alkyl type N,N-dialkyl-monoamides (BAMA) have the steric hindrance on the complexation with metal cations, BAMA can be used to separate An(VI) from An(IV). N,N-di-(2-ethyl)hexyl-2,2-dimethylpropanamide (D2EHDMPA) can recover U(VI) selectively without accumulating Pu(IV) in uranium isolation process. From extraction behavior of Np, D2EHDMPA can extract and separate U(VI) from Np(VI) without reduction from Np(VI) to Np(V) or Np(IV).

When the density gradient is not large enough to change the full reconnection process, the phenomena after the full reconnection, such as the secondary reconnection and the evolution of the safety factor profile, are changed considerably due to the self-generated radial electric field, i.e. the m=0 mode. The growing mechanism is explained by the difference of
drift motion between ions and electrons, which is caused by the fast parallel motion of electron. Once the radial electric field is triggered by the symmetrical flow induced by the m=1 mode, the m=0 mode grows up to the same level as the m=1 mode, and drives an
plasma rotation in the ion diamagnetic direction, which breaks the symmetrical plasma flow induced by the m=1 mode. The density and current distributions, and minimum safety factor after the full reconnection, are found to be affected by the asymmetrical flow driven by the m=1 and m=0 modes.

Recently, the detailed radial profile measurements of plasma parameters have been improved, so that the internal structure of plasmas has been explored. The understanding of plasma confinement has been enhanced by density and temperature fluctuation measurements using a mm-wave reflectometer and electron cyclotron emission measurements respectively. In addition, the real-time control experiments of electron density, neutron yield, radiated power and electron temperature gradient have been carried out successfully by corresponding diagnostic devices. These measurements and the real time control contribute to improving plasma performance. Diagnostic devices for next generation fusion devices such as a CO2 laser interferometer/polarimeter and a CO2 laser collective Thomson scattering system have been developed.

For the in-situ measurement of various substances in the atmosphere by using DIAL (Differential Absorption LIDAR) , a high repetition rate tunable laser is required to obtain data within a few seconds. As the pump source of the tunable laser, the performance of high repetition rate and high average power is indispensable. For the generation of high quality laser radiation, a laser oscillator with 1 kHz pulse repetition rate is made and seeded with very narrow linewidth single-longitudinal mode laser radiation from the outside of the oscillator cavity and its characteristics are studied. As the results, after the thermal equilibrium of the oscillator laser crystal, a single-longitudinal and near TEMoo transverse mode are realized at the pulse repetition rate between 0.5kHz and 1kHz. Single frequency operation is preserved by controlling the cavity length. The average output power of 3W (3mJ per pulse) is obtained. It is confirmed that this oscillator has enough performance as a oscillator of MOPA (Master Oscillator Power amplifier) system.
