DRESA; Construction of database for radiation safety assessment of low dose ionizing radiation

The Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) had carried out the specially funded project of constructing a database "DRESA (Database for Radiation Exposure and Safety Assessment)" with an electronic text on safety assessment of low dose ionizing radiation. The contents and the database system were arranged and designed to provide the fundamental information/data for scientific and reasonable understanding of radiation health effects, radiation risk assessment and radiation protection. Present report explained the data title and its contents, data file formats and system structure of the database. Potentialities and difficulties in constructing WWW database were also discussed.

Neutron diffraction imaging for a SUS430 plate embedded in a copper block sample has been tested at the high-intensity total diffractometer NOVA in J-PARC, the High-Resolution Powder Diffractometer HRPD and the diffractometer for Residual Stress Analysis RESA in JRR-3. The results are also compared with that measured at the Thermal Neutron Radiography Facility TNRF in JRR-3.

In this study, we conducted basic research to evaluate the long-term adhesion characteristics of post-installed anchors by using the neutron beam from JRR-3 in the future. The experiments were carried out TNRF and RESA in JRR-3. In the cross-sectional CT image near the center of the concrete, multiple holes artificially created in the concrete inside the iron can with an inner diameter of about 60 mm were clearly photographed. As a result of comparing the dimensions with the actual measurement and the image, it was confirmed that the values were almost the same, and the tip of the hole could be observed with high accuracy.
