Coupled THMC analysis for predicting hydro-mechanical evolution in siliceous mudstone

We developed a coupled THMC model that can describe the long-term evolution in hydraulic and mechanical properties of the rock masses such as permeability and stiffness due to geochemical reactions within rock fractures induced by cavity excavation. Using the developed model, long-term prediction analysis by assuming the subsurface environments near the radioactive waste repository was conducted. Prediction results show that although many fractures are generated near the disposal cavity, which induces the permeability increase and the elastic modulus decrease in the cracked zone during the excavation, after the excavation the permeability and the elastic modulus of the damaged zone decreased to that of the intact zone and increased to 30% of the initial permeability, respectively. This evolution in rock permeability and stiffness after excavation was caused by pressure solution at contacting asperities within fractures. Therefore, it is concluded that pressure solution within the fractures has significant impact on the damage of rock masses in EDZ area by cavity excavation.

This paper is an attempt to find out thorium oxide dissolution mechanism in HNO$$_{3}$$-HF mixture. In a previous paper, several parameters effects on thorium oxide dissolution have been described, with specific focus on hydrofluoric acid effect, which can lead to an increase of the dissolution rate if present in small amount, but precipitates as ThF$$_{4}$$ at higher content. Based on this previous study, experimental data were fitted using several dissolution models in order to find out the best one. Finally, a revisited model based on literature and considering the ThF$$_{4}$$ formation was proposed. It describes the main steps of dissolution and is able to fit the experimental data for a wide range of solution compositions. This point is crucial since it allows considering an extrapolation of the established model to not-yet-studied conditions.


Study of chemical etching conditions for alpha-particle detection and visualization using solid state nuclear track detectors

固体飛跡検出器であるCR-39を用いたパッシブ型の測定器によってラドン・トロン及びその子孫核種を評価している。曝露後、CR-39は化学エッチング処理を行う必要がある。本研究では、この処理時間を短縮するためにCR-39の化学エッチング時間の短縮と、将来的な自動計数システムの導入を見据えたトラック直径(エッチピット直径)の拡大を検討した。最適なエッチング条件は、溶液濃度, 溶液温度及びエッチング時間を変えることによって決定した。その結果、最適条件(濃度, 温度, エッチング時間)は6M NaOH溶液, 75度, 10時間と決定された。これらの結果は、従来の化学エッチング時間の半分の時間で処理が完了することを示した。さらに、従来のトラック直径の拡大を考慮しなければ、より短いエッチング時間で処理を行うことが可能であることが示唆された。


Corrosion behaviour of FeCrAl-ODS steels in nitric acid solutions with several temperatures

事故耐性軽水炉燃料の燃料被覆管として開発されているFeCrAl-ODS鋼の硝酸腐食評価を、使用済燃料再処理工程に対して燃料被覆管腐食生成物が与える影響を評価するために実施した。3mol/L硝酸における腐食試験を、60$$^{circ}$$C, 80$$^{circ}$$C,沸騰条件において実施し、浸漬試験の試験片に対してはXPS分析を行った。沸騰条件にて最も腐食が進展し、腐食速度は0.22mm/yであった。酸化被膜内のFe割合は減少しており、CrとAlの割合は増加していた。腐食試験の結果、FeCrAl-ODS鋼は高い硝酸腐食耐性を持つため、再処理工程中の溶解工程において許容可能であることを確かめた。

Flow-accelerated corrosion of type 316L stainless steel caused by turbulent lead-bismuth eutectic flow

In this study, an LBE loop referred to as JLBL-1 was used to experimentally study the behavior of 316L SS when subjected to FAC for 3000 h under non-isothermal conditions. An orifice tube specimen, consisting of a straight tube that abruptly narrows and widens at each end, was installed in the loop. The specimen temperature was 450 centigrade, and a temperature difference between the hottest and coldest legs of the loop was 100 centigrade. The oxygen concentration in the LBE was less than 10$$^{-8}$$ wt.%. The Reynolds number in the test specimen was approximately 5.3$$times$$10$$^{4}$$. The effects of various hydrodynamic parameters on FAC behavior were studied with the assistance of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses, and then a mass transfer study was performed by integrating a corrosion model into the CFD analyses. The results show that the local turbulence level affects the mass concentration distribution in the near-wall region and therefore the mass transfer coefficient across the solid/liquid interface. The corrosion depth was predicted on the basis of the mass transfer coefficient obtained in the numerical simulation and was compared with that obtained in the loop; the two results agreed well.

We carried out Monte Carlo calculation to provide energy resolution of pulsed neutron beam for TOF measurements in the KURRI-LINAC pulsed neutron facility. The calculations were performed for moderated neutron flux at the energy range from 0.01 eV to 20 MeV. As the result, we obtained the energy resolutions ($$Delta$$E/E) in the epi-thermal region. For example, the energy resolutions were 1.0% in the neutron energy of 1.0 eV, 1.1% in 100.0 eV and 1.7% in 1.0 keV.

モンモリロナイト圧縮体中のモンモリロナイトの溶解速度($$R_{rm A}$$)のOH$$^{-}$$活量(a$$_{rm OH}$$-)および温度(T)依存性を調べた。その結果、当該溶解速度は、$$R_{rm A}$$=10$$^{4.5}$$ (a$$_{rm OH}$$-)$$^{1.3}$$ e$$^{-55000/RT}$$と定式化され、ケイ砂-ベントナイト混合圧縮体中のモンモリロナイト溶解速度: $$R_{rm A}$$=3500 (a$$_{rm OH}$$-)$$^{1.4}$$ e$$^{-51000/RT}$$よりも速くなった。これは、随伴鉱物の溶解に伴い混合圧縮体内のOH$$^{-}$$活量が低下し、モンモリロナイトの溶解が抑制されたためだと考えられる。また、このa$$_{rm OH}$$-)の低下が定量化されれば、モンモリロナイト圧縮体の溶解速度が混合圧縮体にも適用できる可能性を示した。


Formation and release of molecular iodine in aqueous phase chemistry during severe accident with seawater injection

Seawater injection into the degraded core is one of the measures of accident management as it has been performed at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The constituents of seawater deeply relates to the iodine chemistry in the water pool of the suppression chamber, which indicates that it is important to assess their effect on the source term in a severe accident. In the present study, by employing a four-component seawater (SW) model we try to simulate the I$$_2$$ molecules yielding in aqueous solution as the function of time, based on several datasets about chemical reaction kinetics and to evaluate its fraction of the initial inventory released from the solution to gas phase. The amount of I$$_2$$ molecule in gas phase was in proportion as the SW mixing ratio. The combination of bromide and hydrogen-carbonate anions considerably contributes to the behavior of the history of producing I$$_2$$ gas. The oxygen molecules solved from air drastically reduced yielding I$$_2$$ gas by catalytically consuming hydroxyl radicals, while the I$$_2$$ gas increased by the carbon dioxide gas contained in air. The effects of SW and carbon dioxide gas are recommended to be considered in the quantitative discussion about I$$_2$$ gas released from aqueous solution.

数km四方の局所域スケールにおいて詳細に大気拡散計算を行える数値シミュレーションモデル、局所域高分解能大気拡散モデルを開発した。このモデルは、非定常挙動予測に優れたLarge-Eddy Simulation乱流モデルに基づき設計されている。基本方程式は、連続の式、流体運動方程式、空気中濃度の輸送方程式により構成されている。建造物や局所地形は数m程度の高分解能計算格子で精緻に解像され、それらの乱流効果は境界埋め込み法によって表現されている。大気乱流場の再現にあたっては、主解析領域の上流側に乱流駆動領域を設け、リサイクリング手法によって境界層乱流を作り出している。この乱流変動風を主解析領域に時々刻々与えることで、計算対象領域における大気乱流および拡散挙動を詳細に評価できるようになっている。

最局在ワニエ関数を基にした第一原理ベースのファンデルワールス補正を実装しアルカリ金属イオン水溶液における性能と信頼性を調べた。よく使われているrevPBE GGA汎関数と組み合わせると水分子の構造と動的性質のどちらにも無視できない影響があり、特にアルカリイオンの水和殻に対して顕著な影響があることがわかった。これらの影響はより強い構造形成イオンおよび構造破壊イオンにおいてより明瞭であった。さらに、水分子の拡散係数と再配向相間時間が系統的な変化を示し、長距離分散補正を無視した場合よりも実験結果をよく再現することがわかった。

Organic and inorganic based conjugate materials are important in nanotechnology based on the high functionality and stable complex formation with target metal ions at optimum conditions. A new ligand immobilization based dual and tunable conjugate adsorbent was investigated under specific solution acidity for detection and removal of Co(II) and Cu(II) ions. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration graphs were the linear and detection limit which were 0.52 and 0.41 ppb for Co(II) and Cu(II), respectively. The removal efficiency was carried out as a function of solution pH, initial metal ions concentration, and co-existing diverse ions. Sorption equilibrium was well fitted to Langmuir isotherms and determined sorption capacity was 205.33 and 199.20 mg/g for Co(II) and Cu(II), respectively.
