A porous SiOC material with ceramic nano-fibers was synthesized by catalyst-assisted pyrolysis from a mixture of polyphenylmethylsiloxane (PPMS), azodicarbonamide, a blowing agent, and nickel(II) acetylacetonate, a crosslinking agent for PPMS. The ceramic nano-fibers were produced by the pyrolysis above 1300 C in N atmosphere. After the pyrolysis at 1400 C in N, the porous SiOC material with nano-fibers showed the compressive strength of 1 MPa, total porosity of 83% and specific surface area of 127 m/g. Such high specific surface area proposes that this material can be applied to a material for hot gas filter, catalyst support, and so on.
