In this work, the UV-visible absorption spectra of the transients formed by hydrated electron (e) reacting with 3-NT and its derivatives were investigated, the spectra showed many characteristics of aromatic nitro anion radical. The reaction rate constants of e reacting with 3-NT, N-acetyl-3-nitrotyrosine ethyl ester (NANTE) and nitrotyrosine-containing peptide Gly-nitroTyr-Gly at neutral pH were determined, respectively, which were almost two orders of magnitude higher than that of tyrosine and tyrosine-containing peptides. The pH-dependence of e decay rate constants in presence of 3-NT was also studied.

Times Cited Count:15 Percentile:35.81(Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences)Concentrations of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) were continuously measured from Oct. 2005 to Aug. 2006 in Tokai-mura, a small city on the Pacific side of central Japan. The concentration of atmospheric mercury in summer and autumn is higher than in winter and spring, and an 11-month average of one-hour measurements is 3.78 ng/m (n=7551). Our results showed that changes in the GEM level in Tokai-mura are largely determined by temperature and relative humidity, but are independent of wind speed and direction. Two contrary patterns were observed in the daily-cycle of GEM concentrations: the most frequent pattern of lower concentrations at noon and a pattern of higher concentrations at noon, which was only observed in November. Our results showed that two nearby potential anthropogenic sources of mercury, a coal-fired power plant and incineration facility, have only little effect on the gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) in Tokai-mura based on only GEM measurements.

Size-separated aerosol samples were collected at Tokaimura urban seaside area of Japan using an Andersen type sampler during July 2002 to July 2003. The size-separated aerosols were divided into water-soluble and insoluble fractions, and chemical compositions (Na, Cl, NH, NO, SO, Al, Ca, Mg, Fe, Pb, Th and U) in both water-soluble and insoluble fractions were analyzed. Then, the seasonal variations and the size-distribution in mass concentration and chemical composition have been investigated in detail. Our results showed that the atmospheric aerosol in Tokaimura was obviously affected by dust storm in China, and that sea-salt particles were bigger than those in the Antarctic and were deficient in chlorine.
