Alpha-decay chains observed in the element-115 production reactions of $$^{48}$$Ca + $$^{243}$$Am were investigated using a new data set consisting of our recently reported data obtained at GSI and previously reported ones at Dubna and LBNL. Short decay chains of recoil-$$alpha$$-($$alpha$$)-fission type, fourteen of which were observed, and some of which were interpreted as the 2-neutron evaporation products $$^{289}$$Mc, have been reassigned. It is plausible that most of them were assigned to the 3-neutron evaporation products $$^{288}$$Mc whose decay chain would on the way have branches of EC decays followed by fission.

A TPC has been developed for J-PARC E42 experiment to search for H-dibaryon in ($$K^-$$, $$K^+$$) reaction. An event with 2 $$pi^-$$ and 2 protons decaying from H-dibaryon is searched for inside the TPC. The TPC has octagonal prism shape drift volume with about 50 cm diameter with 55 cm drift length filled with Ar-CH$$_{4}$$ (90:10) gas. At the end of the drift volume, 3-layer GEMs are equipped. In order to analyze momenta of produced particles, the TPC is applied with 1 T dipole magnetic field parallel to the drift electric field with a superconducting Helmholz magnet. In order to maximize the acceptance of H-dibaryon events, a diamond target is installed inside the TPC drift volume, in a cylindrical hole opened from the top to the middle of the drift volume. Since extremely high-rate $$K^-$$ beam is directly injected into the TPC drift volume to the target, a gating grid and GEMs are adopted to suppress positive-ion feedback.

High-spin states in $$^{185}$$Pt have been investigated by means of in beam $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopic method at the JAEA tandem facility. Low-spin signature inversion is revealed in the 7/2$$^-$$[503] band. The inversion can be interpreted as a configuration change from the 7/2$$^-$$[503] orbital to the 7/2$$^-$$[514] orbital with increasing spin, which is supported by a theoretical calculation of the semi-classical Donau and Frauendorf approach.

We report on the event structure and double helicity asymmetry ($$A_{LL}$$) of jet production in longitudinally polarized $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV. Photons and charged particles were measured by the PHENIX experiment. Event structure was compared with the results from PYTHIA event generator. The production rate of reconstructed jets is satisfactorily reproduced with the next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation. We measured $$A_{LL}$$ = -0.0014 $$pm$$ 0.0037 at the lowest $$P_T$$ bin and -0.0181 $$pm$$ 0.0282 at the highest $$P_T$$ bin. The measured $$A_{LL}$$ is compared with the predictions that assume various $$Delta G(x)$$ distributions.

Transverse momentum distributions and yields for $$pi^{pm}, K^{pm}, p$$, and $$bar{p}$$ in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 and 62.4 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the RHIC. We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different $$sqrt{s}$$ collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as $$m_T$$ and $$x_T$$ scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in $$p + p$$ collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the invariant differential cross section for production of $$K^0_s$$, $$omega$$, $$eta'$$ and $$phi$$ mesons in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV. The spectral shapes of all hadron transverse momentum distributions are well described by a Tsallis distribution functional form with only two parameters, $$n$$ and $$T$$, determining the high $$p_T$$ and characterizing the low $$p_T$$ regions for the spectra, respectively. The integrated invariant cross sections calculated from the fitted distributions are found to be consistent with existing measurements and with statistical model predictions.

Gyrofluid simulation on the nonlinear excitation and radial structure of geodesic acoustic modes in ITG turbulence

The nonlinear excitation and saturation mechanism of geodesic acoustic mode (GAM), as well as its radial structure, in tokamak plasmas are investigated by applying a newly well-benchmarked gyrofluid model. At first, an empirical closure relation for the conventional three-field gyrofluid modeling is presented for ion temperature gradient (ITG) fluctuations and the GAMs. The zonal flow (ZF) damping is precisely examined by comparing with theoretical predictions and other kinetic calculations. Then, a local code and the global version are advanced to simulate the nonlinear excitation of the GAMs by ITG fluctuations. It is found that the GAM instability can be nonlinearly excited under the competition between the nonlinear driving and the collisionless damping. The pump amplitude threshold of the GAM instability is higher than that of the ZF instability. Meanwhile, the unstable GAMs are mainly saturated by the intrinsic Landau damping. Furthermore, the radial structure of the GAMs is shown as $$k_rrho_ileq 1.0$$.

Radiation loss in a compound plasma system with high and low temperature regions

Cheng, F.-Y.*; Takizuka, Tomonori; Hayashi, Nobuhiko; Shi, B.-R.*

Chinese Physics, 13(11), p.1902 - 1906, 2004/11

A code has been developed for calculating the non-coronal radiation of impurity in a compound plasma system which consists of high and low temperature regions. The radiation loss of impurity carbon in this system is calculated and analyzed. The cooling rate in this system is smaller than that in a homogeneous plasma system due to the particle exchange between the two regions of the system. The volumetric radiation is much bigger in the low temperature region than in the high temperature region because of the relatively low temperature and high electron density, despite the much smaller volume.
