ITER is under construction aiming to verify technical demonstration of a nuclear fusion generation. Toroidal Field Coil (TFC), one of superconducting system in ITER, have been started procurement of materials in 2012. JAEA is producing materials for actual product which are the forged materials with shape of rectangle, round bar, asymmetry and etc. JAEA has responsibility to procure all ITER TFC Structures. In this process, JAEA obtained many tensile strength of both room temperature and 4K about these structural materials, for example, JJ1: High manganese stainless steel for structure (0.03C-12Cr-12Ni-10Mn-5Mo- 0.24N) and 316LN: High nitrogen containing stainless steel (0.2Nitrogen). Based on these data, accuracy of 4K strength prediction method for actual TFC Structure materials was evaluated and reported in this study.

The ITER organization and 6 Domestic Agencies (DA) have been implementing the construction of ITER superconducting magnet systems. Four DAs have already started full scale construction of Toroidal Field (TF) coil conductors. The qualification of the radial plate manufacture has been completed, and JA and EU are ready for full scale construction. JA has qualified full manufacturing processes of the winding pack with a 1/3 prototype and made 2 full scale mock-ups of the basic segments of TF coil structure to optimize and industrialize the manufacturing process. Preparation and qualification of the full scale construction of the TF coil winding is underway by EU. Procurement of the manufacturing equipment is near completion and qualification of manufacturing processes has already started. The constructions of other components of the ITER magnet systems are also going well towards the main goal of the first plasma in 2020.

This method is to use quadratic curves which are expressed as a function of carbon and nitrogen contents and strengths at room temperature. This study shows results of tensile tests at 4K and confirmation of accuracy of prediction method for tensile strengths at 4K for large forgings and thick hot rolled plates of austenitic stainless steels, which can be used in the actual coil case and radial plates of the ITER toroidal field coils. These products are 316LN having high nitrogen from 0.09 to 0.24% and maximum thickness is 600mm. As the results, it was confirmed that the tensile strengths of these products at 4K can be predicted by using appropriate quadratic curves. And distribution of strengths for each product was estimated.

In this method, signals were measured during evaporation of an entire sample; however, part of the higher detected signals was used for calculation of the isotope ratio. The continuous heating method can measure the ratios with high reproducibility regardless of the sample amount and the skill of operators because procedures of measurement and data calculation were standardized, enabling accurate correction of mass discrimination effect. When U/U ratios in isotopic reference materials measured by the continuous heating method were compared with those measured by the conventional method and the total evaporation method, there was no difference in the case of measurement of a larger amount of samples. However, the continuous heating method showed the most accurate result compared with those measured by the other methods for the measurement of the sample of sub-picograms.

A lithium beam probe (LiBP) has been developed for the measurement of electron density profiles with high spatial and temporal resolutions in JT-60U. Using an electron beam heating ion source with a capability of 10 mA extraction, a 5.5 mA beam has been injected to the plasmas. Using the LiBP, time evolutions of pedestal density profiles during type I and grassy edge localized modes (ELMs) have been obtained for the first time. After a type I ELM crash, the drop of the line-integrated density measured by an interferometer delays by 2 ms later than that of the pedestal density. Comparing the line-integrated density to the line integration of the edge density profile measured by the LiBP, it is found that the recovery from the type I ELM crash is correlated with the reduction of core plasma density. Compared with the type I ELM, grassy ELMs have smaller density crashes than that of type I ELMs, which is mainly derived from the narrower ELM affected area.

Their isotopic compositions were measured by a secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS). Sn/Sn and Sn/Sn ratios of the 1.02 sample were considerably different than the initial compositions, and the magnitude of isotopic fractionation reached 2.6%. A three-isotope diagram of Sn/Sn versus Sn/Sn shows conclusively that isotopic fractionation caused by a gravitational field depended only on isotopic mass.

For the purpose of controlling and monitoring radiations and radioactive materials emitted from nuclear facilities to the environment and also evaluating their effects, various R&D on environmental radioactivity has been carried out at Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). Especially, for the abolition of nuclear weapons and for peaceful uses nuclear energy, ultra-trace analysis of environmental samples for safeguards and ultra-high sensitive monitoring of radionuclides for the CTBT verification, which have been scheduled in the middle of 1990s, have been promotted under the auspices of the Japanese Government at JAERI, the former of JAEA. In this presentation, the outline of R&D on environmental radioactivity for nuclear non-proliferation is introduced. In addition, applications of the developed techniques and future perspectives will be discussed.

In order to achieve high-brightness and low divergence angle simultaneously, the beam optics is designed after detailed numerical simulation taking the space charge effects into account. The newly-developed ion gun is operated on a test stand which simulates the diagnostic arrangement on JT-60U. The ion beam current of 10 mA is successfully extracted from the electron beam heated ion source. A sodium vapor neutralizer neutralizes the collimated ion beam fully at the temperature of 300C. The neutral lithium beam is transported for 6.5 m long from the neutralizer. The HWHM radius of 26 mm and the equivalent beam current of 3 mA with the beam divergence angle of 0.2 degree are obtained. Those parameters satisfy the requirements of the Zeeman polarimetry. Furthermore, a long pulse extraction with a current of 10 mA and duration of 50 seconds is attained.

A lithium ion gun is under construction for a lithium beam Zeeman polarimetry on JT-60U. The performance of the prototype ion gun has been estimated by the numerical simulation taking the space charge effects into account. The target values of the ion gun are the beam energy of 30 keV, the beam current of 10 mA and the beam divergence angle within 0.13 degrees. The low divergence is required for the geometry of the Zeeman polarimetry on JT-60U where the observation area is 6m away from the neutralizer. The simulation results show the beam loss of 50% caused by the clash to the electrode such as an cathode and the neutralizer. Moreover, the beam transport efficiency from the neutralizer to the observation area is low due to the broadening of the divergence angle. The total beam efficiency is about 5%. Extracted current profile affects the beam property and efficiency. The peaked profile achieves better efficiency than the hollow one. As a result, beam current of 1mA is obtained at the observation area by the simulation for the prototype ion gun.
