Indeed, a magnetic long-range order was observed under pressure above 1-2 GPa. To investigate magnetic ground state, we have carried out muon spin relaxation measurements and confirm non-magnetic ground state with fluctuating tiny magnetic moment.

A plan to produce Lu with high purity by using enriched Yb samples with irradiation of deuteron beams in accelerators has been discussed. However, since the other Yb isotopes contained in the Yb sample interacts with deuterons, Lu isotopes other than Lu are produced as impurities. Since the purity of Lu is important for medical use, a method to evaluate the impurity of Lu has been required. In this study, we proposed a new method to estimate production yields of each Lu isotopes in Yb samples with arbitrary isotopic compositions by using excitation functions of Yb()Lu reactions and the particle transport calculation code PHITS. The method plays an important role in discussing the isotopic composition of enriched samples to produce high-purity Lu using accelerators.

The radiation characteristics of image fiber and light guide fiber were evaluated to develop a high radiation resistant fiberscope for the fast reactor in-vessel observation. It is known that a pure silica core fiber has a high radiation resistance and radiation resistance is influenced with impurities in silica. Moreover it is necessary to change the clad material of the light guide fiber because that of the current light guide fiber is acrylate, which is weak against radiation. Hence the improved fibers consist of a pure silica core with 1,000 ppm OH and fluorine-doped silica clad. As a result of a irradiation test, we confirm that OH inhibits the generation of the precursor by irradiation. About the clad material, we confirmed that the transmission loss of the fluorine-doped silica clad fiber is smaller than that of the acrylate clad fiber. About the mechanical strength of a fiber, we confirmed that there is no weakening the strength of the fiber and no exfoliation of the coating from the glass. In this study, we discovered the fiber which consists of a pure silica core with 1,000 ppm OH and fluorine-doped silica clad has a high radiation resistance and it is possible to observe using this fiber under the 200 C after 510 Gy irradiation.

In this device, a cubic shaped pressure medium is compressed by six anvils, and neutron beam pass through gaps between the anvils. The first high-pressure experiment using this device was conducted at J-PARC and clearly showed the neutron diffraction patterns of Pb. Combining the cubic-anvil high-pressure device with a pulsed neutron source will prove to be a useful tool for neutron diffraction experiments.

"R&D Project on Irradiation Damage Management Technology for Structural Materials of Long-life Nuclear Plant" was carried out from FY2006 in a fund of a trust enterprise of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The coupled irradiations or single irradiation by JOYO fast reactor and JRR-3 thermal reactor were performed for about two years. The irradiation specimens are very important materials to establish of "Evaluation of Irradiation Damage Indicator" in this research. For the acquisition of the examination specimens irradiated by the JOYO and JRR-3, we summarized about the overall plan, the work process and the results for the study to utilize these reactors and some facilities of hot laboratory (WASTEF, JMTR-HL, MMF and FMF) of the Oarai Research-and-Development Center and the Nuclear Science Research Institute in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.

We are proceeding with the study of "R&D Project on Irradiation Damage Management Technology for Structural Materials of Long-life Nuclear Plant". For the study, it is important that the irradiated specimens are gotten by the coupling of JRR-3 and JOYO. This reports the total irradiation plan in the study, and the executed work for the coupling irradiation (JRR-3 and JOYO) including the Hot facilities work of Tokai and Oarai in the 2006 fiscal year.

A heavy fermion compound YbCoZn possess quite large electronic specific heat coefficient at low temperature. We have carried out muon spin relaxation measurement to clarify a magnetic ground state. No static magnetic ordering was observed down to 20mK. Meanwhile, the fluctuating magnetic field was detected. This fact suggests that the compound is located in the vicinity of the quantum critical point.

We have examined the feasibility of in situ neutron powder diffraction under high pressure with the Engineering Materials Diffractometer "TAKUMI", which has been constructed at BL19 in the Materials and Life Science Facility (MLF) of J-PARC. We have tested two types of high pressure devices at TAKUMI, a Paris-Edinburgh press and a Palm cubic anvil cell. Neutron poder diffraction profiles of Pb placed in the high pressure devices as a standard material were collected. As results, diffraction peaks of Pb were clearly observed. In this study, it has been confirmed that in situ neutron powder diffraction under high pressure can be made with a combination of the high pressure devices and the TAKUMI at J-PARC.
