The RCs with nominal GS of 0.75 mm, 1.5 mm, and 3.0 mm effectively exhibited GS of 0.50 mm, 1.07 mm, and 2.78 mm, respectively. The transmissions of all three RCs were almost equivalent. The assessment using a P-E press and a DAC revealed that the anvil scattering was considerably minimized and the sample-to-anvil signal ratio reached values of 0.5 and 2.0 for the PE press and DAC, respectively, when using the 0.5 mm-GS RCs. These results indicate that the 0.5mm-GS RCs have been fabricated as intended and exhibit efficacy for the high-pressure-neutron diffraction experiments, specifically those exceeding 30 GPa. Among those ever manufactured for neutron scattering experiments, the RCs display the smallest GS.

We report our experimental discovery of the transition temperature reaching 20 K in a Yb-based compound at ambient pressure. The Mn substitution at the Al site in an intermediate valence state of -YbAlB not only induces antiferromagnetic transition at a record high temperature of 20 K but also transforms the heavy-fermion liquid state in -YbAlB into a highly resistive metallic state proximate to a Kondo insulator.

The NTE was found to be intimately associated with the spontaneous magnetic ordering, known as magneto-volume effect (MVE). Here we report with compelling evidences that the continuous-like MVE in PrBaCoO is intrinsically of discontinuous character, originating from an magnetoelectric transition from an antiferromagnetic insulating large-volume (AFILV) phase to a ferromagnetic less-insulating small-volume (FLISV) phase. Furthermore, the magnetoelectric effect (ME) shows high sensitivity to multiple external stimuli such as temperature, carrier doping, hydrostatic pressure, magnetic field etc. In contrast to the well-known ME such as colossal magnetoresistance and multi-ferroic effect which involve symmetry breaking of crystal structure, the ME in the cobaltite is purely isostructural. Our discovery provides a new path way to realizing the ME as well as the NTE, which may find applications in new techniques.

The ion source is same as the J-PARC linac's, and the old 30-mA RFQ is replaced by a spare 50-mA RFQ, therefore, the beam energy is 3 MeV and the nominal beam current is 50 mA. The main purpose of this system is to test the spare RFQ, but also used for testing of various components required in order to keep the stable operation of the J-PARC accelerator. The accelerator has been already commissioned, and measurement programs have been started. In this paper, present status of this 3-MeV linac is presented.

In the past, water flow decreased at water cooling system in J-PARC Linac. Contamination get mixed in cooling water. The problem was resolved by changing the system of the circulation pumps and reducing the tiny metal in water cooling system. However, suppression of occurring tiny metal is unresolved. The tiny metal is the unique problem of accelerator. It is caused by heavy using oxygen free copper and phosphorus deoxidized copper. The two copper is used for the part of accelerator and purified water. The object of the report is investigation of tiny metal contamination of water cooling system in J-PARC Linac.

Spin-state transition, also known as spin crossover, plays a key role in diverse systems. In theory, the boundary range between the low- and high-spin states is expected to enrich the transition and give rise to unusual physical states. However, no compound that realizes a nearly degenerate critical range as the ground state without requiring special external conditions has yet been experimentally identified. This study reports that the Sc substitution in LaCoO3 destabilizes its nonmagnetic low-spin state and generates an anomalous paramagnetic state accompanied by the enhancement of transport gap and magneto-lattice-expansion as well as the contraction of Co-O distance with the increase of electron site transfer. These phenomena are not well described by the mixture of conventional low- and high-spin states, but by their quantum superposition occurring on the verge of a spin-state transition.

It is the report to improve the problem of flow reduction in water cooling system resolved completely in summer, 2017. It is continued the phenomenon decreasing the flow (5,800 L/min) of circulating water cooling in DTL and SDTL about 3% per week. By the flow reduction, the entire operation of J-PARC and operation of the accelerator are stopped and low flow contact of flowmeter installed in cavities. The phenomenon is progressed about 9 years since we confirm it and drastic measures for it are aspired. In this report, the point of interest to solve this problem is written. Similarly, it is suggested that the point we should be careful when we use the water cooling system it is one of the utility of J-PARC accelerator. In last summer, the flow reduction is not occur completely as specification changes and replacement of the pumps. Thanks of that, the entire operation and operation of accelerator of J-PARC is operated safety.

Temporal evolutions of SANS patterns were measured with time resolution of 13 ms while sweeping temperature as fast as 50 Ks. It turned out that the paramagnetic-to-SkL transition immediately occurs upon traversing the equilibrium phase boundary on the rapid cooling, whereas the SkL-to-conical transition can be kinetically avoided to realize the low-temperature metastable SkL with a long-range magnetic order. The formation of the metastable SkL was found to be strongly dependent not only on cooling rate, but also on magnetic eld and trajectory in the H-T phase diagram.

Almost all instruments installed in the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) at J-PARC have adopted this method since the first beam came and have achieved good results. On the other hand, our treatment of event recorded data leaves room for improvements and developments to achieve more effective utilization. This paper introduces one of the applications of the event recording method to achieve the pseudo real-time data treatment in MLF in a simple way.

In the experimental fast reactor Joyo, the damaged upper core structure (UCS) was retrieved into the cask in May 2014 The dose rate on UCS surface was quite high due to the activation for over 30 years operation. In order to attain the optimum safety design, manufacture and operation of equipment for UCS replacement, the method to evaluate UCS surface dose rate was developed on the basis of C/E obtained by the in-vessel dose rate measurement in Joyo. In order to verify the evaluation method, the axial gamma-ray distribution measurement on the surface of the cask, which contained UCS, was conducted using a plastic scintillating optical fiber (PSF) detector. This paper describes the comparison results between calculation and measurement as follows. (1) The measured axial gamma-ray distribution on the cask surface had a peak on proper location with considering the cask shielding structure and agree well with the calculated distribution. (2) The C/E of axial gamma-ray distribution on the cask surface was ranged from 1.1 to 1.7. It was confirmed that the calculation for UCS replacement equipment design had a margin conservatively. Then, the results showed that the developed evaluation method for UCS replacement equipment design was sufficiently reliable.
