Morimoto, Makoto; Suto, Masayoshi; Ito, Yoshio; Ito, Hideaki; Aoki, Hiroshi; Odo, Toshihiro

JNC TN9430 2004-002, 60 Pages, 2004/03

JNC-TN9430-2004-002.pdf:2.28MB

This paper describes the result of the sodium purity measurement test on MK-III function tests. This test meant cold traps caught impurity which was carried into the primary and the secondary cooling system by MK-III modification work of the heat transport system, and the amount of impurity was evaluated by plugging temperature before and after the primary and secondary purification operation. Then the following two tests were practiced. Test number and name was shown. (1)SKS-122 Measurement test of purity on primary sodium purification system (2)SKS-211 Measurement test of purity on secondary sodium purification system As the cold traps could catch impurity which made with MK-III modificatlon work, impurity concentrations of sodium in the both of systems were generally within the reference limits of JOY0, while the function tests took in practice for Mk-III. As a result, the amount of impurity Oxygen caught by cold traps calculated approximately 400g in the primary sodium cooling system and approximately 1100g in the secondary one.

As the final step of development of a control rod guide system (rod guider), it has been conducted to display information concerning the rod guider operation and the current plant conditions on a CRT in Japanese, to tell information for operators and to predict more accurately the stroke of each control rod to be driven at a reactor power adjustment operation since 1992, in oder to improve a function of man-machine interface of the rod guider. The development of the rod guider was completed with the following good results as expected. (1)The function of man-machine interface of the rod guider was improved to display information on a CRT in Japanese. (2)The voice guidance contributed to obtain higher operational reliability and to lower the load on the operators. (3)The rod guider provided the same function as operation manuals of Joyo because all operation procedures in the manuals were inputted into the rod guider. And the timely operation guides provided by the rod guider evabled non-skilled operators to control the reactor in the same manner as the experienced ones. (4)The difference of the predicted and actual rod stroke to be driven at the reactor power adjustment operation was reduced to less than $$pm$$0.2mm by both the existing inverse multiplication method and the experiences gained in the past five reactor power adjustment operations.

In order to reflect JOYO operational and maintainable experience to MONJU, JOYO operation section has to interchange technical information with MONJU. This report is used technical information interchanging meeting with MONJU regarding to primary sodium purification system and described that experiences of sodium reception, sodium initial purification and sodium purification during power increase.

A cold trap examination for measurements of dose rate, which purpose is to grasp the distribution of Captured oxygen impurity from the surface dose rate and distribution of nuclide, was carried out in the 6th and the 7th periodic Annual Inspection. The results obtained from this examination were as follows. (1)The surface dose rate of a new modeling Cold Trap at the 7th periodic Annual Inspection was about twice rate as much as the 6th. (2)$$^{22}$$Na, $$^{60}$$C0, $$^{54}$$Mn, and $$^{124}$$Sb were detected from C0ld Traps. (3)The distribution of $$^{60}$$Co at a old modeling Cold Trap was same as the distribution of captured oxygen of CT4-1B which is mocked up for a old modeling Cold Trap of JOYO. Therefore the distribution at a Cold Trap will be expected that the distribution of $$^{60}$$Co is same as the distribution of captured oxygen impurity. (4)The new modeling Cold Trap was designed to Capture the oxygen impurity homogeneity at mesh territory. The distribution of $$^{60}$$Co at the new modeling Cold Trap was uniformed at mesh territory. Therefore, if there are the Correlation between the distribution of $$^{60}$$Co and the captured oxygen impurity, New modeling Cold Trap was displaied design function and Captured oxygen impurity homogeneity.

Monitoring of impurities concentration and radioactivity in coolant sodium and cover gas argon has been continued for the purpose of purity control on JOYO. This report deals with the results of these monitoring during 1983 to 1985. Typical characteristics are followed. (1)Impurities concentrations in primary and secondary sodium were generally within the reference limits of JOYO. (2)Although hydrogen and methane concentrations in primary cover gas argon exceeded the reference limits during maintenance of primary system main circulating pump and fuel handling works, other items were well controlled within the limits. Particularly nitrogen concentrations in primary cover gas argon decreased to 1/5 as MK-I Core. This is due to vanishment of undifined air leak-in during the MK-I Core operation and diclution effect of blow down for fuel handling charge machine during core conversion works. (3)When vent type control rods were newly inserted to the reactor core, initially in helium gas in the rods were released to the primary cover gas during irradiation core conversion period. Tts concentrations were 734ppm. And helium concentrations produced by neutron reaction in the control rod absorber were decreased as withdrawal of control rods. (4)Impurity concentrations in secondary cover gas argon were generally within the reference limits of JOYO. (5)Radioactive corrosion products deposited in the primary sodium sampler were gradually increased with reactor opration time elapsed. And, dose rate at the surface of sampler was less than 10 mR/h after $$^{24}$$Na decay.

The preliminary design of experimental fast reactor JOYO was started in 1965. After thid design, three steps of conceptual designs are carried out, and main parameters were fixed during these steps. This paper describes the operatin experiences which contain functional test beore criticality, initial criticality and low power testing, power ascension tests to 50 MWt operation, power ascension tests to 75 MWt and 75 MWt operation.
