The proton linac installed in the Ibaraki Neutron Medical Research Center is used for production of the intense neutron flux for the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). The linac consists of the 3-MeV RFQ and the 8-MeV DTL. Design average beam current is 10mA. Target is made of Beryllium. First neutron production from the Beryllium target was observed at the end of 2015 with the low intensity beam as a demonstration. After the observation of neutron production, a lot of improvement s was carried out in order to increase the proton beam intensity for the real beam commissioning. The beam commissioning has been started on May 2016. The status of the commissioning is summarized in this report.

This report describes the present status of the klystron power supply systems for the J-PARC linac. The systems for the 181 MeV linac were operated from September to May. A few breakdowns were occurred, and are described in this report. The new systems for the upgrade of the linac from 181MeV to 400 MeV have been installed until now, and the 3 HVDCPSs and the 3 anode modulators of the new systems have been operated. All the systems for 400 MeV linac will be operated in this autumn.

Times Cited Count:12 Percentile:47.17(Physics, Applied)We previously reported that the magnetic state of FeRh can be controlled by irradiation with ion beams. In this paper, we evaluate possibility of magnetic patterning on FeRh thin films using energetic light ion microbeam irradiation with various shapes and dimensions. Proton microbeam irradiation with 2 MeV was performed at JAEA-Takasaki to produce micron-sized magnetic patterns. XMCD-PEEM observation was performed at SPring8 to confirm the synthesized magnetic patterns. As a result, the XMCD-PEEM images of the various micrometer sized patters in FeRh film were observed using 2 MeV H ion beam. The observed bright regions are considered to have ferromagnetic spin orders, in contrast that the gray areas have anti-ferromagnetic spin order. Since the brightness of the PEEM images is strongly correlated with the magnetization of the samples, we reveal that the magnetic state in local regions of the FeRh thin films can be controlled by changing the ion fluences.

We will report about status of linac 400 MeV upgrade program and northeast Japan earthquake restoration. On March 11, the linac suffered serious damage as consequence of the earthquake, and was shuttled down for long term. Linac RF group restores the facilities and is accomplishing 400 MeV upgrade at the same time.

A 500-kV photocathode DC electron gun which can supply the beam of a low emittance and a high average current has been developed in collaboration with KEK, JAEA, Hiroshima Univ., Nagoya Univ. and Yamaguchi Univ. The vacuum of the gun chamber has to be lower Extreme High Vacuum for maintain cathode-life time. A titanium chamber and new material of ceramic were employed to reduce outgassing rate. The result of outgassing rate of the gun chamber is described in this report.

Future synchrotron light source using a 5-GeV energy recovery linac (ERL) is under proposal by our Japanese collaboration team, and we are conducting R&D efforts for that. We are developing high-brightness DC photocathode guns, two types of cryomodules for both injector and main superconducting (SC) linacs, and 1.3 GHz high CW-power RF sources. We are also constructing the Compact ERL (cERL) for demonstrating the recirculation of low-emittance, high-current beams using above-mentioned critical technologies.

Since N,N-dialkylamide (monoamide) compounds extract tetravalent and hexavalent actinides, they have been proposed as alternative extractants to TBP. In the present work, numerical calculations for estimating separation performance of N,N-di(2-ethyl)hexyl-butanamide (D2EHBA) for U(VI) and Pu(IV) were carried out. A flow sheet was obtained which separate more than 99.9% of Pu(IV) from U(VI) by adjusting nitric acid concentration. Extraction properties of D2EHBA for macro concentrations of U (0.63-1.22 mol/dm(M)) and Pu (6.3 mM) were studied in a batch manner. D2EHBA diluted to 1.5 M by n-dodecane extracted up to 0.8 M of U(VI) without forming precipitation and third phase. Distribution ratios of Pu(IV) were relatively high compared with the ones obtained at tracer concentrations of Pu(IV).
