In the nuclear plants, it is required to detect an anomaly as early as possible and to inhibit adverse consequences. This requirement is especially important for the prototype Fast Breeder Reactor "Monju". Therefore, the monitoring and diagnosis system is required to be developed for "Monju" plant equipments. In these days, such a monitoring and diagnosis system can be realized using web technology with rationalized system resources due to remarkable progress of computer network technology. Then, we developed a platform based on web technology for the monitoring and diagnosis system of "Monju". Distributed architecture, standardization and highly flexible system structure have been taken account of in development. This newly developed platform and the prototype monitoring and diagnosis system have been validated. The system on the platform acquires "Monju" plant data and displays the data on client computers using "Monju" intranet with acceptable delay times.

A distributed plant monitoring and diagnosis system is being developed at "Monju". Plant data are obtained from the "Monju" data acquisition system. Diagnosis software adopts the agent system. The standardizing of the interface and the use of agents enables flexible improvements to be made to the system. Moreover, the adoption of Internet technology enables "Monju" engineers to access this system from their PC. This report describes the system outline and some of the validation work that was conducted.

This report discusses a method to equip a multi layer neural network(NN) with a calculational function to derive differential values of the output parameters against the input parameters. Multi layer NNs have been applied in various domains of engineering, because of easy construction, flexible interpolation of nonlinear multi-input functions, and some other preferable features. However, derivatives of those output parameters have been approximately calculated by interpolating between two different output values. And new methods to guarantee the accuracy of the derivatives have been desired. We payed their attention at sigmoid functions, which are commonly used to realize the nonlinear characteristics of nodes in NNs, and at one of important features of this function type that the derivative is represented by a polinomial of itself. And, we developed a method to add a calculational function to derive differentiated values of the output parameters to multi layer NNs, whose CPU cost is smaller than the original NNs.

The ultrasonic thermometer is installed on the piping of the secondary cooling system in Monju. The characteristic of the ultrasonic thermometer in case of the sodium temperature change was evaluated as the first stage of system startup test of Monju. The evaluated temperature by the ultrasonic thermometer agreed well with the thermocouple measurement in this condition.
