This master plan on nuclear safety research (fiscal year 2001 - 2005) includes subjects of research to be conducted uniquely by the Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute (JNC) as well as those to be conducted according to the annual program on nuclear safety research prepared by the Nuclear Safety Commission. The master plan was deliberated by the Special Committee on Nuclear Safety Research (SCNSR) and the Central Safety Committee (CSC), and decided by the Board of Directors in December 2000. Nuclear safety research carried out by JNC covers seven fields of fast breeder reactor, nuclear fuel facility, earthquake engineering, probabilistic safety assessment, environmental radioactivity and radioactive waste. The first revision of the master plan to add 27 new subjects relating to improving safety, especially operational safety, of nuclear facilities, was deliberated by the SCNSR and the CSC, and decided by the Board of Directors in May 2002. This added version to add two more new subjects to the revised master plan was deliberated by the SCNSR and the CSC, and decided in xxx 2004.
