By first-principle calculation, we characterize the interstitial sites for D (and for H slightly mixed) with four equivalent potential minima. Below the superconducting transition temperature Tc = 26 K, new excitations emerge in the range 5-15 meV, while they are absent in the reference system LaFeAsOF. The strong excitations at 14.5 meV and 11.1 meV broaden rapidly around 15 K and 20 K, respectively, where each energy becomes comparable to twice of the superconducting gap. The strong excitations are ascribed to a quantum rattling, or a band motion of hydrogen, which arises only if the number of potential minima is larger than two.

Unlike other parent compounds of the iron-based superconductors, the magnetic excitation gap in LaFeAsOD was not detected down to the lowest measured temperature of 4 K. This result can be understood as a result of quasi-isotropy within the ab plane, which is consistent with the band calculation result that the orbital plays the dominant role in the magnetism of LaFeAsOH. In addition, the intensities of the magnetic excitations in this phase are much stronger than those in nondoped LaFeAsO. Even in the paramagnetic phase, the magnetic excitation in LaFeAsOD persists. These results corroborate recent studies showing that the electron doping enhances the localized nature in this system.

We have found that the values of the Co(Rh)-O bond lengths in the Co(Rh)O octahedron of LaCoRhO are nearly identical at 10 K. The lattice volume for the Rh substituted samples decreases with the thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of LaCoO from room temperature, and ceases to decrease around 70 K. These experimental results favor a mixed state consisting of the high-spin state and low-spin state Co ions, and suggest that the high-spin state Co ions are thermally excited in addition to those pinned by the substituted Rh ions.

We found that the magnetic ground state in TbVO changes from -type spin ordering (-SO) to -type spin ordering (-SO) on application of pressure. The transition of the magnetic ground state also indicates that the ground state of the orbital ordering changes from -type orbital ordering (-OO) to -type orbital ordering (-OO). In YVO, the -SO and -OO phases set in simultaneously up to 6.2 GPa, and the disorder-[-SO, -OO] phase transition appears above 6 GPa. This is the first observation of a simultaneous spin and orbital order-disorder phase transition in perovskite-type transition-metal oxides MO. The [-SO, -OO] phase is strongly stabilized with increasing pressure, and both the covalency effect and the superexchange interaction play roles in this stabilization.
