From numerical simulations of the amplification processes of high-order harmonic pulses in the undulator, optimum conditions of the electron bunch duration interacting with the high-order harmonic pulses were investigated for generating full-coherent and intense pulses in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength region.

We have demonstrated free-electron laser radiation seeded by high-order harmonics in the extreme-ultraviolet region. Strong enhancement of the radiation intensity by a factor of 104 was observed with timing control of an electro-optical sampling technique.

The microwave heating method was revealed to greatly accelerate crystallization and crystal growth of the synthesized powder. Addition of a small amount of Zr stabilized synthesis of a hexagonal-MoO powder. Furthermore, the microwave heating with Zr-addition has synthesized a specific urchin-like shaped hexagonal-MoO crystal having a good crystallinity. The present methods would be useful for effective utilization of Mo from high level nuclear waste in terms of their practicability and ability to the morphology control.

The 13th harmonic of a Ti:sapphire laser has been significantly amplified with the SCSS test accelerator. The temporal and spatial overlap of the electron beam and the high harmonic radiation were precisely tuned for achieving the seeded free electron laser operation. With numerical simulation the present HH-seeded FEL scheme could readily be applied to the wavelength region down to 10 nm.

A fast reactor cycle scheme that incorporates each material is described in the present paper. Basic studies on some fundamental technologies for the present cycle are given. Basic separation aspects for Mo by using LIX63 micro capsules and tertiary pyridine resin were investigated. A simple chemical synthesis route for Mo precursor powder from Mo containing HNO solution was tested. Effects of impurities in recovered Mo on sintering behavior were experimentally investigated.

We succeeded in generating the seeded free electron laser (FEL) with wavelengths of 61 nm at the SCSS test accelerator. The 13th (61 nm) harmonics generated by focusing the high peak power Ti:Sapphire laser to the Xe gas cell was directed to the undulator. This is first realization of the seeded FEL in extreme ultraviolet region.

When the amplification conditions were fulfilled, strong enhancement of the radiation intensity by a factor of 650 was observed. The random and uncontrollable spikes, which appeared in the spectra of the Self-Amplified Spontaneous Emission (SASE) based FEL radiation without the seeding source, were found to be suppressed drastically to form to a narrow-band, single peak profile at 61.2 nm. The properties of the seeded FEL radiation were well reproduced by numerical simulations. We discuss the future precept of the seeded FEL scheme to the shorter wavelength region.

The authors found that amorphous GeSbTe can be regarded as "even-numbered ring structure", because the ring statistics is dominated by four- and six-fold rings analogous to the crystal phase. On the other hand, the formation of Ge-Ge homopolar bonds in amorphous GeTe constructs both odd- and even-numbered rings. They believe that the unusual ring statistics of amorphous GeSbTe is the key for the fast crystallization speed of the material.

We measured the orbit fluctuation caused by APPLE-2 type undulator (ID23) installed in the SPring-8 storage ring by using the developed real time measurement system of electron and photon beam position monitors. We quantitatively found two characteristic fluctuations correlating with the ID23 motion by wavelet transform which is a kind of frequency analysis. One originates from the variation of error field during the ID drive. The other originates from the stray magnetic field leaked from the servomotors for the phase drive. Using these results, we tried to get rid of the effect of error fields on the beam orbit by the precise feed-forward correction table and the stray field shield. Consequently we succeeded in suppressing the orbit fluctuation down to sub-micron during the gap drive, which is observed by photon beam position monitors installed in downstream 20m from each light source point.

We observed two characteristic electron orbit fluctuations caused when the phase of ID23 (APPLE-2 type undulator) installed at SPring-8 was driven. One was caused by the variation of magnetic error filed of ID23 when the phase was driven. The other was caused by the noise from the phase drive system which adoped AC servomotors. We measured these orbit fluctuations synchronized with the phase motion using the real-time electron beam position measurement system. The part of the orbit fluctuation was supressed by the correction table which was made referring to the obtained data.

We have developed a new method to extract only the orbit fluctuation caused by changing magnetic field error of an insertion device (ID). This method consists of two main parts. (i) The orbit fluctuation is measured with modulating the error field of the ID by using the real-time beam position measuring system. (ii) The orbit fluctuation depending on the variation of the error field of the ID is extracted by the filter applying the Wavelet Transform. We call this approach the amplitude modulation method. This analysis technique was applied to measure the orbit fluctuation caused by the error field of APPLE-2 type undulator (ID23) installed in the SPring-8 storage ring. We quantitatively measured two kinds of the orbit fluctuation which are the static term caused by the magnetic field error and the dynamic term caused by the eddy current on the ID23 chamber.
