The crystal was thin with wide stiffening wings. The length-to-width ratio of the crystal was optimized by finite element analysis, and the optimal value was larger than the "golden value". The analysis showed that the slope error owing to anticlastic bending is less than the Darwin width. The X-rays were focused two-dimensionally using the crystal and a tangentially bent mirror. The observed profiles of the focal spot agreed well with the results of a ray-tracing calculation in the energy range from 8 to 17.5 keV. X-ray diffraction measurements with a high signal-to-noise ratio using this focusing system were demonstrated for a small protein crystal.

We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as and scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to collisions.

The authors found that amorphous GeSbTe can be regarded as "even-numbered ring structure", because the ring statistics is dominated by four- and six-fold rings analogous to the crystal phase. On the other hand, the formation of Ge-Ge homopolar bonds in amorphous GeTe constructs both odd- and even-numbered rings. They believe that the unusual ring statistics of amorphous GeSbTe is the key for the fast crystallization speed of the material.

The material group that is called smart materials of ferroelectrics, magneto-strictive materials, shape-memory alloys, and hydrogen-storage materials can control physical properties by the elastic strain caused in the crystal. Because the irradiation by the ion beam and the electron beam can efficiently change the elastic strain in the crystal, it is efficient measures to the characteristic modification of a smart material. In this study group, pair-distribution function (PDF) was applied as an new visualization techniques of the crystallographic structure of the irradiation material. It examined whether the irradiation effect of smart materials was extractive by the PDF analysis.
